Wow, got away with a DWI the other night!

So Friday night/Saturday morning at about 3am I was on my way back from the bar when I get pulled over for a tail light being out. The officer then asks me to step out my to show me the light that was out. He then asks me if I had anything to drink and I told him that I had had a few drinks, which was really like 11-12 drinks(took 2 Jaeger bombs about 20 minutes before leaving the bar). He then asks me to do the flash light test followed by the alphabet. After that he makes me walk over to the parking lot right where I was pulled over and do the straight line test and the stand on one foot test and as Im doing these tests I get a call from my friend(more to come with that situation). Finally I get done with all his sobriety tests and we are walking back to my car and he says you are lucky Im in a good mood tonight get out of here. The whole time he was giving me orders for the sobriety test I was zoned out, the only thing running through my head was man Im going to ****ing jail. As I get to my friends house, I call my friend who called me, and he just had the same luck, he didnt have to do a sobriety test, but he got away with just a reckless driving ticket. The only bad thing from the whole deal for me was that he took my license, registration, and insurance cards away. I really dont care cause those could easily be replaced, and they are alot cheaper than a DWI fine and all the other goodies that come with it.

NJ is one of the most strictest states to drink and drive in,your chances of getting busted are higher there than probably anywhere in the country..the penalties are harsh also,a $3,000 insurance surcharge for the first offense for 3 years (thats $1,000.00 a year on top of your insurance rate for 3 years after you get your license back),and that doubles on the second offense.

You're obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Well, considering the guy hasn't replied... I say it's "BS". And, Elvomito... yeah, he sounds like a real winner.

I know a lot of people who drive home with a buzz... I think they're pretty irresponsible, but the fact is, they do it ALL the time and haven't gotten into any accidents, so I'm guessing they aren't any more likely to get into an accident. Most of them probably drive a lot safer when they're drunk, because they're aware of the reprecussions of getting pulled over. When they're sober, they speed through lights, run stop signs, and talk on their phones, etc...

However, I would never condone driving while you're DRUNK! That's just plain stupid, you can't even have a conversation or get dressed, let alone operate heavy machinery. You're fully aware of how stupid it is, so I won't go into the "you're endangering...blah blah blah..." Just don't be a dickweed and drive drunk. People will actually LIKE you and respect you if you admit to not being able to drive and just sleep for a few hours in your car or something...

I like the "I'm a big man argument"... I've used it before. Even if you're not pissing on yourself drunk, you're impaired to a degree.

It's insane... they have cabs. Use a life-line, call a friend.

Sleepy drivers are as bad as drunk drivers. So if the cop let him go after all those tests he must have not been that bad. So who ****ing cares. I think alot of these posts are ****ing ridiculous.

Its kind of odd that you see yourself as lucky. sure, you got off the hook and dont have to deal with any serious repercussions. you dont even have to address the issue of whether or not you have a problem. And you probably should.

A cop letting you go for a DUI is like a Doctor collecting tissue for a biopsy then neglecting to send it to a lab. There is no problem as far as you know.

I hope you take some of these responses to heart. Hopefully, you can curb your driving while intoxicated. Or you could find out you have a problem and do something about it before it ruins you.

Fact is, a close call should be a wake up call. I had one, and it was for me. I still don't think I was "drunk", really... but I was close enough to be scared shitless.

You should think about the fact that there's very little chance you'd be so lucky next time... and make sure there isn't a "next time".

This is exactly what I was talking about. Check out this thread.

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=117125

The thread titles alone illustrate the point.

"I am never drinking and driving again"

vs.

"Wow, I got away with a DWI the other night!"
