View Poll Results: LJ walks into your office and wants $80 million over 8 years.
$80 million for 8 years? He’s worth it. Pay the man. | 7 | 12.07%
I’d love to lock up LJ for 8 years, but not for $80 million. Knock it down $20 or $30 mill and we’ll talk. | 9 | 15.52%
$10 million/year makes sense considering he’s elite, but not for 8 years. More like 4-ish. | 27 | 46.55%
Pay the man his fancy contract and then trade him when he’s 30, 31. | 3 | 5.17%
See if you can negotiate it down to a 2 or 3 year deal for relatively little, and if that’s not possible, ta ta LJ. | 1 | 1.72%
Trade. Him. ASAP. He’s worth more now than he’ll ever be. | 9 | 15.52%
Gaz (please explain). | 2 | 3.45%

Offer him less than LT, but more than your average NFL back. Explain to him although he is a good back, he also had the pleasure of a great Oline which needs to be paid for too. Add a few incentives into his contract for # of carries, yards, YPC, etc.

Well, I don't have any specific suggestions about numbers but one thing I would like to see us do is front-load the contract. We have the cap room and it would be nice to have the option of cutting him in a few years if we need to.

Well, we can't really trade him now because he's in the last year in his deal and the draft has already passed up by. If we sign him to a long term deal, not many teams are gonna want to eat that contract up. I think Carl is backed into a corner on this one. Not only that but LJ has already paid his dues and Carl knows that it would be awfully hard to fill up Arrowhead if he leaves.

I'd pay him 8 years/ 60 mill. And then cut/trade him when he gets older.

8 years is nuts for a 27-/28-year old RB.
I think he has maximum of 4-5 peak years left, so I'd go a max of 6 years, with the typical 1-2 voidable years at the end. It's a risk, but what isn't... |

It all depends on how it's structured. If it's one of those deals where he'll never see the money at the back end anyway then maybe.
Since he turns 28 this season, you can reasonably predict 3 more productive seasons barring some sort of injury. 31 is about the time to cut bait on a running back, maybe past time for someone with that kind of a running style. Maybe a 5 year deal that could end after 3? |
