For home use, Vista is fine and even for small business use. I personally still would prefer Win2000 for business use to be honest... however there really isnt the option.
Vista has too much stuff in it for business use in my opinion. Too much "bling" that is not required for businesses. However, MS isnt going to do anything different so its kind of a mute point. The biggest problem with Vista for business right now is software compatability. Heck, even the FedEx Shipping Software does not work on Vista.

We aren't thinking of rolling out Vista yet, however we have some test boxes out in the field.
We are a pretty progressive organization, too. We are currently rolling out Office 2007, if that gives you any idea. I like Vista - it takes away alot of the users ability to **** things up, and it is easier to build images for. Plus it is pretty solid as far as stability goes, but the software compatibility isn't there yet. We run apps that some companies haven't even started to certify for Vista.

What is the name of your business Saul? Would I be familiar with it being from Topeka?

Saul,
a: Burning a CD, giving it to Wes. Wes has the password, "KU Rules", tips on the Vista exams... b: For Vista, M$ rewrote every .dll using secure coding techniques. I won't say that some yutz won't discover an exploit, but they're going to have to be more creative about it. c: I noticed that FedEx currently has a beta on they're shipping software for Vista. d: I wonder how many people have explored the Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit f: Turn off User Account Control! e: (Idiotic Smaque) K-State (more idiotic smaque) KU (something so inane as to cause spontaneous laughter and milk-nose syndrome) underdog (pause, and fondly remember the first time you touched a female booby) beer (always a good way to finish).

I haven't implemented it in our network here yet.
1) We don't have the money to do it being Non-Profit 2) Being the ONLY tech/admin I'm not ready to train anyone on it yet. We still use XP Pro and office 2003 here and things are running smoothly. I get enough headaches from everything else, I'm not ready for Vista to cause more. |
