Good signing, but I'm perplexed why everyone seems to think this is the end of Napolean Harris. This is competition for Donnie Edwards on the outside. Donnie is an older vet, who is likely on his last years.

I remember him as a quarterback's nightmare. I can proudly wave the flag for the guy.

According to Yahoo

Mar 1 Williams visited with the Chiefs on Friday, the Kansas City Star reports.

Recommendation: Kansas City has more pressing needs than linebacker, but the Chiefs were underwhelmed by Napoleon Harris' play last season. They also need to start preparing for life after Donnie Edwards, who will be 35 this season. If Williams signs, Kansas City may move Edwards to the middle (bumping Harris out of a starting job) and let Williams play his natural weakside position, which could give him solid value as an IDP.

I knew Williams would stick to the outside.

A tad undersized, but Edwards is not an arm tackler. His numbers speak for themselves. (The move to OLB in the Chiefs' defense was enough to explain 2007's drop in tackles, although he still had a good year considering.)

When we signed him I assumed that's where Donnie would play, MLB. But his weakness is taking on physical runners at the LOS. Hopefully we now beef up at DT if we plan to move him back inside...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Move Edwards over and cut Nap Harris, just eat the contract now since we aren't using the cap room on many players.

Anyone who's watched him knows he gets abused by physical HB's. I'm not saying he doesn't have game, that's just not his game...

If you read between the lines, that appears to be the plan.

Dorsey or Ellis. Sweet...

He knows how to tackle. To accuse him of being an arm tackler is just plain wrong. That's all I'm saying.

I think he's aggressive enough, but he's small. It's probably a good move, but time will tell. When will we stop waiting on Fox's time to come...it ain't coming. Obviously Bell is even worse. We need a big thumper for the middle...a nice thing to draft this year and develop.

I totally agree with you. I think our starting 3 linebackers will be the same as last year, but that Williams will play on all special teams units and get some snaps in place of Edwards at will. Then in 2009 he steps in when Donnie is gone. Plus they also likely project that Edwards won't make it through 16 games at his size and age. Linebacker is probably the weakest position in the draft, so they felt safer finding Donnie's replacement in free agency. Plus Ray Farmer came from Atlanta, so this is a player he knows very well.
