He started at left guard last year, but with Ben Hamilton back and Montrae Holland coming off a solid first-year showing, Kuper is expected to get first crack at left tackle, where Lepsis started before retiring in January.

Ryan Harris is also in the mix but didn't even play in a preseason game as a rookie because of back problems. So coach Mike Shanahan apparently is putting his faith initially in the more experienced Kuper, who most recently played left tackle regularly as a college senior but shifted between the guard and tackle spots last preseason.

"I like it. It's a little bit different," Kuper said of playing tackle. "There's not much help. You're dealing with the best athlete on the defensive side, so it makes it a little more stressful, I think, too."

With only one other experienced tackle on its roster, Erik Pears, Denver is expected by many to select an offensive tackle in a deep draft at the position. Vanderbilt's Chris Williams and Boise State's Ryan Clady are first-round possibilities.

"It wouldn't surprise me, but it's going to be competition either way," Kuper said, adding he wants to play in the position that gives him the best chance to start, whether at guard or tackle. "I don't see anybody handed the job. That's not my experience here."

Again, the Broncos just aren't trusting their Drafted talent like they should.

They drafted three solid guys for their DL last year, all three can play, and still Shanarat's out there trying to buy a DL.

They drafted a guy who's a prospective LT, a guy I liked, Ryan Harris, and they can't trust him to man down the position.

They're doing it to themselves, man. They're doing it to themselves.
