Jared Allen is a Viking

According to Adam Sheffter of NFLN.

Just saw on the ticker.

Chiefs receive the Vikings 1st round pick (17) and both 3rd round picks (73,82) in the 2008 draft.

http://www.nfl.com/

-----

EDIT - Jay Glazer says we will also swap picks in the 6th round. Per KFFL:

Vikings | Team acquires J. Allen, agrees to terms on contract
Tue, 22 Apr 2008 21:14:13 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a contract with Kansas City Chiefs DE Jared Allen. The Vikings will give the Chiefs their 2008 first-round draft pick, two third-round picks and the teams will swap sixth-round picks with the Vikings acquiring Allen. Allen has also agreed to terms on a six-year deal worth just under $74 million with $31,000,069 guaranteed. No. 69 is his jersey number.

I agree completely on this. I don't think we should trade away our picks. Just don't give up our young superstars!

There is just no balance at all with this organization. Sell out everything for offense with one coach, sell out everything for defense with the next. Mortgage the future for free agents with one coach, cut ties with our best young player with the next. It's a world of extremes with the Chiefs. "Rebuilding? OMG let's get rid of everybody and bring in 13 rookies!" Just the latest flailing in a pattern of team management that always looks like desperation.

You picked 14 players out of 70, and I don't think any were pro bowlers. (Maybe Cooley?)

For two 3rd rounders, that translates into:

4% chance of getting 2 starters
32% chance of getting 1 starter.
64% chance of getting 0 starters

*shudder*

If we get Dorsey AND Chris Williams, or Gholston, or Ellis and Chris Williams. We're gonna be in good shape IMO. Then 2 more 3rds to see what else happens.

While the third rounder history may not be spectacular for us, the only thing that matters is what Herm's current regime comes up with. It may continue to suck or it may be great. We'll see. Jury is still out on Herm's prior thirds.

And let's not forget that Jared Allen was had in the fourth round. So it's not like good players aren't there for the taking. Our damn scouts just better be on the ball this year (and next) if we're going to get winning players out of this.

The other thing is that we don't necessarily have to stay in the third with this trade. It gives us ammo to move up back to the second round if we need, or even up from 17...

Hell, from round 2 to round 1. I know the idea is to accumualte picks but if you can manage 3 1st rounders...damn...

Now, what player will we be able to get at #17 that will be the equal of Allen?

I think it is stupid mistake. Kingless will have to pay the 5th. pick almost the amount Allen received ... and who knows if the drafted players will produce or not???

With that said ... I'm okay with the trade ... it will most likely help us lose more games and thus cause Clark to clean house. Or, it will just be out luck for all these draft choices to help us get back to 9-7 ... just enough to allow Carl/Herm to hang around but not good enough to win a championship. Allen is an excellent player. But, these are our Chiefs!!!!!

Wow this kind of sucks. I wish JA well and I wish he could have stayed here but those 3 picks can come in handy this weekend.

It will definitely be an interesting draft.

Stick to making long polls.

I was very conservative. It's probably closer to 20.

And for the record, five Pro Bowlers out of that group.

Uh, this is circular logic.

At first, you say this is a stupid mistake. Then you say you're okay with it.

Which is it?

FTR, it was a GREAT trade for the Chiefs. The Chiefs get an additional first round talent to address the offensive or defensive line AND they get more ammunition to move up or stay put for more players in the third.

AND they don't have the burden of an unhappy player who's one strike away from missing an entire season of football. Oh, and while he's in his prime.

Win. Win. Win.

Um, when you hire a coach, you sell out for his philosophy.

It happens EVERYWHERE and in every city in the NFL.

Sorry you don't like it

Dayum 13 draft pick, 6 on the first day. It will take a Herculean effort by Carl to completely fuck this up. Basically he has to pick 1 pro-bowl quality player and one quality everydown starter along with 1 so so starter to exceed expectations for the Chiefs.

At least at the end of the day we will have a lot of fighting amongst ourselves.

In fairness Adam has a point about the extremes. Weird thing is I thought we were selling out for defense, now we have turned that applecart over as well.
