Tyshawn Taylor
Commits to KU!
Didn't see it on here anywhere: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2008/a...or_commits_ku/ Tyshawn Taylor commits to KU By Gary Bedore (Contact) Originally posted 11:46 a.m., April 29, 2008 Updated 01:31 p.m., April 29, 2008 advertisement Tyshawn Taylor, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard from St. Anthony HIgh School in Jersey City, N.J., today orally committed to Kansas University. Taylor, who defines himself as a “winner,” said he simply could not pass up the opportunity to play for coach Bill Self’s Jayhawks, who earlier this month won the 2008 NCAA championship. “I’m the only player who can say he’s going from the high school national championship team to the college championship team. I think it’s pretty cool I can say that,” Taylor said Tuesday after orally committing to KU over Georgia Tech. Taylor, who led St. Anthony to a 32-0 record and USA Today’s mythical national championship, recently was released from his letter-of-intent with Marquette after coach Tom Crean bolted the Milwaukee school for Indiana. “I’m really happy,” said Taylor, who averaged 10 points and five assists a game in leading St. Anthony to the Jersey state title. “My visit to Kansas (last week) was incredible. The basketball atmosphere is crazy there. I come from a high school where basketball is everything. I’m going to a college where it’s the same thing. I think that is what I need.” Taylor chose KU over runnerup Georgia Tech. “Nothing against coach (Paul) Hewitt’s program. They have a great team as well,” Taylor said. “I just felt like Kansas was the right place for me. Coach (Bill) Self and all the coaches and the players made me feel comfortable. People there are still celebrating the championship. It’s something I want to be part of. “I think I can come in and compete for playing time,” he added. “I would not have chosen Kansas if I didn’t think I could play. But whatever school I chose, I’d have to earn it.” St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley was thrilled for Taylor. “He just informed me he’s ready to join the Jayhawks,” Hurley said. “This is a very unusual situation. Here’s a kid who played for the national championship team in high school going to the national champions in college. I know he’s very excited and we’re excited for him.” Taylor, who will sign a financial aid agreement upon arriving at KU (players can only once sign a letter of intent), said he’ll be attending the first session of summer school. ----------11:46 a.m.---------- Tyshawn Taylor, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard from St. Anthony HIgh School in Jersey City, N.J., today orally committed to Kansas University. Both have already entered their names into the draft pool, but neither has signed with an agent. 7 recruits in one year huh? These kids DO realize that you can only play 5 guys at a time, right? lol. This sure beats the every other year method ol' Roy used back in the day.

B.S! One year Roy brought in ONLY Bryant Nash ( the other punk transfered). He would take about every other year OFF almost like clock-work towards the end. B. Self will have more rings than Roy before it is all said and done mark my words. I loved Roy and still respect the guy but he is/has always been missing something...toughness...and Bill has IT. Look out Roy.

I really don't understand this commitment. Self claimed he wanted another big man for this class - I'll assume it was J'Mison Morgan who decided to stay at LSU.
The only reason I can assume we signed Taylor was because it looks like more and more Chalmers will sign with an agent. I can't blame him either. I'm verrrry curious how our starting lineup is going to transpire. I know we'll be very young and immature, but man I'm stoked. It's going to be exciting. It kind of makes you wonder who may decide to transfer. |

This lineup reminds me of the year that the outgoing seniors were sophomores and we lost to Bradley in the tournament. That team was very young and inexperienced with Rush, Chalmers, Robinson, Kaun, Galindo, Giles, Wright, Kaun, Jackson, etc. I believe that was the year we played in Hawaii early on and looked absolutely ridiculously bad. I remember thinking we have too many big time recruits, they'll never gel. But if you remember Downs had transferred I think that year or the year before, then Giles eventually left. As the year progressed we built confidence and ended up making a huge run through the Big XII schedule (won 10 in a row after losing to K-State and Mizzou) and then got crushed at Texas. We eventually tied with Texas and then beat UT in the Big XII final.
We sure looked BAD in Maui that year and got REALLY good by the end of the year. I have a feeling this team could take on that tenor.

I remember watching those Maui games in shear horror, but I trust Coach Self knows what he is doing. I see a slow start, but again, contending for a title in 3-4 years again... |
