Home and Auto Anyone know of a good Beekeeper in the Olathe area?

I was out in my backyard spreading about $125 worth of "fungicide" on my lawn today and noticed a nice large group of several hundred bees (at least) milled around the one small tree I have in my backyard. These were all small bees, not hornets or yellowjackets or anything like that, yet with this tree being about 25 feet from my house, I don't think it would be a good idea letting these stay around too long. Anyone here know of a good beekeeper who can come collect these for me?

I hear there are people who will do this for free since honey bees are endangered. That's exactly the sort of deal I need since my brown lawn is already setting me back this month and I'd prefer to not have to deal with yet another expense. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated....

You might try the state conservation department, actually. The state of the honeybee in the U.S. is pretty dire right now.

An easy way to find out is go to you local hometown grocery store (not a walmart, etc) and look at the honey and see if any labels are from locals. My grandfather and a good friend of his used to keep bees and would sell a lot of honey at local grocery stores, healthfood stores and farmer's markets and even some farm and home stores. Most labels have a name and address on them. Any of those options would most likely get you a name to call. Since I have beekeeping in my past, I notice honey sections and I frequently see honey from local suppliers.

I've helped my grandfather get bees like the ones in your yard. As long as they are in a small tree and not taking residence inside a hollowed out part, they are pretty easy to get out. If they are inside a hollowed out part of a tree, they can be pretty hard to get out without sawing the tree.

FWIW, another reason to shop for local honey suppliers is honey and bee pollen are also good to help cut down on allergies but they in work best if you buy locally produced honey made from the nectar and pollen from your region.
