Madden NFL 09

Who is going to get this when it comes out???? Last year's version was really disappointing so I will be sure to rent Madden 09 first before buying it.

Yeah, the graphics are better. But man, I'm sick of the big play itis. TOO many, fumbles, interceptions, interceptions returned for TDs, completed long passes. I also notice that runners tend to get consistently stuffed unless they break a 60 yard rush.

I did use the "sliders" to modify gameplay, but there are still limits to how much reasonable play you can achieve. I tried letting the CPU play games against itself and testing out different slider settings, in an attempt to get the game to produce both reasonable stats and gameplay.

Quarterbacks still have too low a completion percentage, i've got fumbles and INTs under control, but i have reasonable qb ratings, and yards per attempt totals. The commit feature for defense is still too effective. Teams get stuffed on short yardage runs almost all the time, which run contrary to actual NFL results.
None of that shit is contrary to actual NFL results.

hell yes they are. Try looking up 3 and 1 or 3rd and inches converstion percentages on Stats Inc. In madden, u will convert these downs less than half the time if the defense uses the commit feature. In the real nfl, those percentages are well over 50 percent.

I played 6 games of the 2007 season as the Chiefs. I had over 20 interceptions and 12 fumble recoveries IN SIX GAMES. Btw....that's what MY DEFENSE produced. (I'm complaining about GOOD results for me). Of course, I threw a lot of INTs and fumbles, but those could be the result of poor play, so i threw them out. Tamba Hali was on his way to being a superstar, he had 8 sacks in 6 games. I also, however, gave up a bundle of long pass completions.

The chiefs (in reality) were 28th in stopping the run. My Chiefs stuffed the run like crazy. They gave up less than 60yards per game rushing (i was playing on all pro level).

That's when I got disgusted and started using the sliders and letting the machine play itself, trying to produce reasonable game play. Quarterbacks still complete around 50 percent of their passes, but tend to be lower, with a lot of long pass completions.

Its like the dang thing is programmed to play raider football from the 60's and 70's.

Just curious. What version were you playing? I play 08 on PC with these sliders. Seems pretty realistic to me.
