Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I watched this last night (rented copy) and as much as I wanted to hate it I ended up liking it a lot. Now I want to buy the DVD. Here's the question:

There is an unrated collectors edition that is 229 minutes. The one I watched was 118 minutes (unrated). Which one do you recommend and why?

The theatrical release was 112 minutes long.

The unrated DVD release was 117 minutes long.

There "might" be 229 total minutes, if this set comes with both the unrated and theatrical release but there's not a version out there that 229 minutes long.

FWIW, I liked it but not as much as Superbad or 40 Year-Old Virgin. More than Knocked Up for sure.

  7. Step Brothers
  8. Get Smart
  9. Baby Mama

There's something of a dropoff after Be Kind Rewind. Step Brothers was okay, Get Smart was iffy but it grew on me, and Baby Mama was just not good (as much as I like Tina Fey).

Keep in mind these are all of the comedies I saw this year, so it's not like I consider them all to be Top 10 movies.
Step Brothers should be higher up the list and Tropic Thunder was TERRIBLE.

I agree that he fit the role perfectly. In that movie... he was perfectly cast.

But Jesus, Mikey's right. That dude just defines "douche-nozzle".

Rumor has it that he'll be cast in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie as John Sparrow, Jack's brother.

Oh, and I absolutely agree. He was perfect in that role.

Agreed. That movie was a blast.

And who knew Cruise had such a sense of humor? I can't hear "Apple Bottom Jeans" without thinking of Lester.

Edit: Also the special effects guy... (Played Franco's supplier in Pineapple Express.) That dude's hilarious.

Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis kept me in this movie. I wanted to throw Jason Segel in the woodchipper.

and I really enjoyed sarah marshall.

while we're talking comedies of 2008, I have to bring up 'sex drive'

highly underrated. I went in with very low expectations (only saw it because it was in the dollar theatre, and I was bored)--it was ****ing HILARIOUS--it has to go in my top three of the year.

my list:
1. step brothers
2. zack and miri make a porno
3. sex drive
4. forgetting sarah marshall
5. pineapple express
6. tropic thunder
7. get smart
8. role models (not high enough, but it's hard to top anything but get smart. I didn't like this as much as the rest, but I DID enjoy it)

some are too close to really rate--I love comedies, and watch a LOT of them... 1-5 are interchangeable, depending on my mood.

I haven't heard much about that one. I'll check it out.

We have similar tastes in comedy.

I disagree about Step Brothers, but as I said, I didn't finish it... so that's not really fair.

Zach and Miri, though... we agree on that.

I'm a huge Kevin Smith geek... add a little Seth Rogan, and you've got genious. (CPS)

I love will ferrell's stuff--- he and john c. reilly have great chemistry, and you can really tell it from step brothers... what I loved about step brothers was how ****ed up and shocking it really was--it's almost like they wrote the movie (ferrell and reilly, iirc) for a few fifteen year olds, and then, at the last possible moment, decided that THEY should star in the movie. all of the lines wouldn't really shock you from a fifteen year old with filthy language--when they come from a 40 year old man who still lives at home, they're ****ing GOLD
