Depending upon who gets the GM job ... if it's Bradway ... it doesn't matter coz it will be business as usual with the Chiefs.
If the GM is one of the 3 or 4 mentioned previously (from a winning organization), after he/his new coach evaluates Thigpen, I trust him to make the decision. I tend to think that Thigpen does not have the potential of a true QBOTF, but I admit this is a GM/talent scout/coaching decision and not mine. So, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. That being said, the opportunity to take a top flight QB only happens rarely (at least I hope we show progress next year and do not have this opportunity next year … if not we are in trouble with both new GM/Coach and in that case it will not matter who they draft). If one of the 3 QB’s are available, I think we should seize the opportunity and take him. Seems like that doubles our possibility of having a quality QB. If Thigpen develops into the next Elway, then we can trade the drafted guy. If Thigpen gets hurt, we have another in the wings. Someone mentioned wasting a pick if the QB is another Ryan Leaf … you mean like Ryan Sims??? Point, there are draft pick misses at all positions. We have used journeymen QB’s for way too long. If the GM/staff determine there is a legit QBOTF, I hope they pick him. As has been said above, if they hit on this pick, it will set us up at that position for well over a dozen years. Course, the next question (as to his success) who will be his coach/QB coach? But, that is the subject of another thread. But, as I reflect … Elway/Manning/Breeze didn’t need a “special” coach to become successful. Elway/Breeze were under at least 2 different coaches. Yeah, I recognize none was a Curl!!!!!!!!!! Sanchez has not been mentioned much. But, I liked what I saw of him in the Rose Bowl. He might be the best of all 3???? Now, in passing, if a team wants to trade and give us their draft (aka NO for Ricky), I’m all for that as well. But, an Elway/P. Manning just might be worth a whole draft???? |
