Money Tipping your server

We aren't assholes about it and say at the beginning of the night that we are there to drink and to just keep them coming. We'll still have fun with our waiters/waitresses and the difference is there is never a no tip. We have a bottom tip we'd leave the worst server in the world, but we let the service determine how much we leave.

As a server, I'll say that I do like the idea of actually getting tipped based on merit because I'm a good server. The real question is what people think is a good tip. I'll go ahead and take this chance to put out there that for reasonably good service, anything less than 15% is not acceptable and 10% or below is insulting. I just like to let people know this stuff when given the opportunity since, trust me, there are a lot of people that flat don't know how to tip.

never worked as a server, but I agree... 15% means they did their job... 20% means you appreciated it... anything less and they either sucked or maybe you shouldn't be going out to a bar or restaurant....

btw... in most other countries that "don't tip" the servers get paid a HELL of a lot more than here in the states...

That is already happening. That is the process. The customer making some stupid dog and pony show out of the process is obnoxious.
