Some of you guys are acting like Vrabel is the second coming of Vince Lombardi in the leadership department.

God forbid that we cultivate our own leaders.
1.) Pioli came from the Patriots. The Patriots do things in a certain way.

2.) Gonzalez did not come from the Patriots. He does not know that way.

3.) Vrabel is a linebacker, Gonzalez is a tight end. One is offense, one defense.

4.) Cultivating their own leaders got the Chiefs 2 wins last season.

5.) Ray Lewis is also 34, and he'll cost a lot more than Vrabel.

What is so difficult about this for you to grasp?

plus.... we need the depth. we have no real LBs for the 3-4. I guess you can count DJ. So, now we have to starting caliber LBs for the 3-4. Can Demorrio Williams play OLB in the 3-4?? We need depth really, really bad.

How many LBs usually dress on game days in the 3-4?

I'll take future potential over a 1-2 year rental every time.
What if that 1-2 year rental helps to ensure the future potential of your many young/new players???

What the hell are you talking about? One player regardless of who it is, is not going to will any team a SB. That is why it is called a team and again if he ended up being a great player and later on leader on defense who are you to say the pick wasn't worth it? There are many other ways to make plays on defense outside of sacks in case you didn't know and they can be just as if not more valuable ie turnovers.

Me personally I don't care who we pick as long as they live up to where we picked them in the draft.

But this was all about you making a claim that a LB is not worth a top 5 pick

If I can only choose between the two (I'm not advocating either, FWIW) I take Lewis.

In Lewis, you're getting a guy that is going to give you better on-field play, the leadership you're looking for, and doesn't appear to be declining as quickly as Vrabel is. All while keeping your draft pick.

In both cases, you're getting a rental that won't be here when the team is competing for a championship - I'd rather have the one that will be a better player and doesn't cost a draft pick.

I haven't been conditioned on anything. I know the value of draft picks.

However, I'm also not going to say Tony Gonzalez is a leader when he's whining to the media every chance he gets about what his personal preference is.

This is a likely 6th or 7th round draft pick. There are ways of picking another one of them up in the later rounds simply by moving back a few spots in the 5th round.

Young players need veterans to show them how to win. Every team in the NFL has veteran players on it that are mentors. Do you think the Cardinals go to the SB without Warner? Absolutely not. I don't think the Steelers sniff the SB without someone like Hines Ward.

There are guys in the league that are all about the team-first. That's who I want showing guys like Dorsey, Flowers, Albert, Bowe that it means to be true pros.

Vrabel can help do that.

Do I think he's the next coming of Christ? No way. Do I think he's a long-term answer? No way.

But I do think that what he rubs off on some guys could provide long-term help for this franchise.

I'll wait to see what the final product of this off-season is before I start to cry foul over acquiring one needed veteran.

I really can't believe we are switching to the 3-4. We have spent the last 3 years drafting defensive players for the 4-3. I know that the defense sucked last year. But PLEASE remember that the Chiefs had the 13th ranked defense in 2007. I think if the Chiefs could have added a talent like Jared Allen in 2009 (I know that is a big if) that the defense could have been 13th or better again. The secondary is much improved from 2007 when we were ranked 13th.

I don't think there's any chance in hell a Ray Lewis type comes here on his own.

Because it's not unless the guy rushes the passer.....do you know how many LB's have been taken top 3 in the last 20 years...2, and they both bombed.

LB is the RB of defense it's not hard to find good LBs in the middle rounds.

We should trade our other picks for Bruschi and Izzo.

I mean, Vrabel is going to be busy trying to change the thinking of the other 52 guys.
