Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

I can't either. It's true the guy doesn't have a ton of experience, but he was night and day better than anything we put out there last year. It's not a sure thing he'll be a good fit, but i'm exstatic about the potential to be. Every other Sportscenter past week 12 ESPN had his stats side by side w/ Brady's first year, and Cassel's were very close. Not saying he's the next Tom Brady, but I like his chances of leading our team to success waaaaaaay better than I would w/ a rookie QB or Thigpen.

Ah well. Top 10 defense we were, I guess. It sure as hell didn't look like it on the field, but points per game is where it's at, so I guess we were.
You'd like to be closer to 17, but it's hard to complain if you're giving up under 20.

I wonder how much the dropoff at quarterback and on the offense as a whole had on the other side of the ball. Maybe none, but my guess is that the offense that you guys put on the field in '07 can hide a few holes on the other side of the ball. You've got way too much talent to be bad on defense (unlike us back in the 2002-2005 range), but maybe that unit isn't what it was.

It's hilarious...it's one of the reasons I love DCS. He drives people wild thinking he is I.

You guys are so different in both style and content. I don't get the comparisons.

I'm going to guess they were at the combine then spent the rest of the week breaking down tape and negotiating.

They just want to act like a bunch of one who sucks the peniss, because we traded for Cassel, I think it's lame, and they want to stir the pot.

But I hope all of their enjoyment of this nonsense can still fill their souls when the Chiefs are still going nowhere two to three years from now.

I know it's not GoChiefs because GoChiefs can actually make a decent photoshop.

You said its ironic that the crowd that loudly supported getting a QB because that's what winning teams do (paraphrase) is now upset that we got a QB, just not the one they wanted.

I was saying that it would be hard to find someone who just blindly wanted a QB, no matter who he is. The loud QB supporters wanted Stafford or Sanchez. Specifically.

Yeah, the team is taking a risk on a QB. But Cassel is a very different kind of QB acquisition. He's not as young nor is he considered to have the same ceiling. I just don't see what is ironic about desiring Stafford or Sanchez but panning the move to get Cassel.
I get what you're saying, but I don't agree with it. Because you're comparing it to what the idiots on this board say, and not what is actually happening. In Pioli's mind, he did just what everyone said he should do, acquire the best QB for this team. We just had thread after thread about how the "true fans" don't want a QB. I get what you're saying, but the reality is those aren't the only two guys in the history of the world that will be able to save this franchise.

And people can get on their high horse, but most of the complaining is simply because they hitched their wagon to Stafford or Sanchez months ago and couldn't get off the bus because it was moving too fast. They watched every game these guys played, evaluated their snaps, had thousands of posts about it, etc.. to make a detailed analysis on these guys, and we have some posters who have done a fine job of studying these guys. But in the matter of a couple days all that work got thrown out the window for nothing. But it's at least for a guy that our front office has scouted more thoroughly than anybody here has scouted any QB. Including college snaps, workouts, practices, etc.

You can say otherwise, but that never would've happened with Carl.

Cassel is a long way from being a franchise QB right now.
Brady would not have won 4 of the 5 games they lost the defense played horrid.

The Steelers stopped him. Think about what you said. The world champion Pittsburgh Steelers stopped him.
Oh he sucks then

And I've mentioned the patriots defense was awful in that game too
