Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

also, how can you say that haley has no knowledge about QB talent, when the only chance he's ever publicly had was the situation you just mentioned? thats reeruned.

Also, if cassel sucks, dont you think he'd have the balls to bench him for somebody else, like he did with lienart, even though he was making a shit ton of money?
The thing that initially pissed me off and quite a few others was not so much the trade, but the philosophy behind it. I mean come on; you give us a 30+year-old DE on Friday, and then shoot everyone's desire for a franchise QB that would be solely "ours" to hell the next day?
Whaddaya' expect?
My Chicago Bears buddy at the liquor store was absolutely flabbergasted that I didn't have sunshine rays shooting out of my ass over this!

And after watching a little bit of Cassel's work( though I need to see more to assuage my conscience ), I see his point; the deal was highway robbery, and Cassel's talent is on-par with the guy I wanted.

So now, trade down and stock up; throw the 3rd overall to the masses unless we're hell bent on drafting Curry or Crabtree I guess?

Dumbassery is rampant here. If you dont put a "/anchorman" after that sentence, you pretty much open yourself up.

What logic!

By your reasoning, any team picking in the top 4 would be reaching for whoever it was they pick. Maybe because the available talent pool of the kind the Chiefs are looking for doesn't rate a top 3 pick, we conclude there are no position players worthy. But that discounts 28 other teams who have their own needs, and folks, you're not going to tell me you have the cog on what those 28 teams need. Maybe our needs would be better met by trading back into the 1st round, and picking up a second rounder in the process. I believe there will be team wanting to trade up. We get 1st round value and recover our 2nd round pick.

You're hearing it first:

I know jack-shit about line, and even less about 3-4.

Honestly, with the Corners we have now, I'd love to see a return to Zone.

But with the passing game being so dominant today, you know they're gonna' spread it out as much as possible to account for it.

And I have a bit of a problem with that philosophically. If you acquire the talent necessary for the task; you rush the passer. Mercilessly. You come at him from both sides, and you do it all day. You let your Corners and Free Safety do their jobs against the pass, and you use your Strong Safety as the last line of defense against the run.

Of course, this requires a great deal of talent, but it's what I like.

I didn't say we were going to make the playoffs.

But if they're going to trade picks for players, it's obvious they don't really want to "build" anything over time. They're going for instant impact.

So no excuses, COMPETE for a playoff spot.
