I think the 1 year deal is a smart thing. It's franchise tag level pay but a tryout year.

Since it happens so often, please tell us how many times in recent memory a team has traded an early 2nd round pick for a player, only to release that player the following year.

Shouldn't take long, you claim that every team in the league does it.

Guys drafted on the first day at least are given multiyear contracts. It isn't a one year tryout.

The NFL needs to fix that -- I'm waiting for the day when more teams will let the time expire and jump back in at a more reasonable cost.

Pioli can always sign Cassel during the season. I believe if Pioli thinks that Matt's his guy, he'll be glad to pay him what he's worth. The Chiefs are in a win-win situation.

After Tony Romo defeated the Giants in 2007, Romo reached an agreement with Dallas, which made him the highest paid QB in the league -- I remember that his contract was somewhere in the range of $65-$70 MM based on his QB rating at the time.

Well it's a guaranteed full year tryout. It needs to be determined whether he's a system guy or a guy who has stand alone talent. I wasn't saying that in any disbelief of Cassel. I like the guy and hope he turns out to be what we are all hoping for. There are some guys that have done good homework on him from here and that really helped my anticipation of him arriving. He's getting good pay because he's a very promising prospect. But it's a tryout.
