Cassel or Sanchez?

I realize that we are where we are, but the more I see about Sanchez, the more I'm afraid that a few years down the road, we may look back and realize that we passed up on the franchise guy that we've been looking for. I know that Cassel played ok last year, but is he a franchise guy? ...likely not. Thoughts?

Nice spin, but not at all related to this situation.

Since it happens so often, please tell us how many times in recent memory a team has traded an early 2nd round pick for a player, only to release that player the following year.

Shouldn't take long, you claim that every team in the league does it.

We'll wait.

Very true.

Why not just admit that then, instead of anointing Cassel in spite of it?

That was your post. It was not "trade" specific. The only spin would be yours. I did, in fact, specifically mention the draft in my response.

WTF? Why would it NEED to be? Is this a ****ing Cowboys board? Are you that mentally challenged that you can't make the connection?

Let's see.

My post relates to our situation. We traded a 2nd round pick for what some claimed to be a tryout.

Your post had nothing to do with our situation, which is typical of the tripe you post.

Thanks for wasting everyone's time.

Well it's a guaranteed full year tryout. It needs to be determined whether he's a system guy or a guy who has stand alone talent. I wasn't saying that in any disbelief of Cassel. I like the guy and hope he turns out to be what we are all hoping for. There are some guys that have done good homework on him from here and that really helped my anticipation of him arriving. He's getting good pay because he's a very promising prospect. But it's a tryout.

You asked a question. I gave a simple, obvious answer. It's not my fault you failed to grasp the obvious. Or are you going to now claim that second round players are never cut after year one?

Dont forget folks, that we spent a 2nd round pick on Cassel and Vrable. Vrable had obvious value. Some might argue he could have pulled a 2nd or 3rd round choice by himself.

A test drive for a 2nd rounder would be foolish if he (Cassel) didn't work out. We do have Vrable to help defray(sp?) the cost. Meaning it wouldn't really be the equivalent of a 2nd rounder for 1 player.

That isn't what you presented in your post.

If you agree with what they are doing, fine.

But don't ask me not to voice my opinion if I disagree.

Claythan, As a Giants fan, that particular question, I can't answer. I only get to watch the Patriots live night games and when they play the Jets. ----

Brady is not mobile. Here's another thing Brady can't do -- Cassel can run.

What I do know -- You can be the best scrambling QB in the league, but if the WR doesn't make the right adjustment and run the right route the play is dead.

In the end the strategy remains the same -- It's just not about what the QB can do --it's equally important what the QB has around him can do.

I find it hard to believe that Pioli would give up a No. 2 and $14 MM if he felt that Cassel was a bust. It's worth mentioning, the Chiefs got two starters (and most likely future position coach) in exchange for the 34th pick.

In fact, McDaniels decided early on that he wanted Cassel instead of Cutler as QB. Denver has many problems, however, the QB wasn't one of them.

good nite...

I love how some people say Cassel is untested. The kid was put into an incredibly pressure filled situation, handed the keys to a high profile team in a sports intense, and sometimes cruel, sports town, after not playing for years, and told, "replace Tom Brady".
He steps in,goes 11-5 with a team whose defense lost 4 of those games by themselves, by all accounts from people who watched all 16 games played terrific, is so highly regarded by the man who is generally respected as the best evaluator of talent in the NFL that he traded the #34 for him, and you have people here saying he's either untested or mediocre. And these same people proclaim Stafford and Sanchez as the second comings of Jesus Christ.

Actually, you have that backwards. Anyone supportive of Cassel is worshipping him as Jesus Christ. Just ask DCS/RoR, he'll tell you.

Hillarious, isn't it?

Guys drafted on the first day at least are given multiyear contracts. It isn't a one year tryout.

Well its stupid to make any of them into more than they are. Cassel is not a Pro Bowler. But he could be. The point is he's played and won in the NFL. he's shown more in the NFL than the college qbs that's assumed have more upside. Matt leinart was a great qb at USC too
