Peter King: How all 32 NFL teams stack up as of now
Chiefs are ranked.......Wait for it.....................
29th. 29. Kansas City Could the Chiefs be this year's Dolphins, a team that gets a quarterback and magically starts being competent? Don't think so. Not unless the front seven of Kansas City is a lot better than it appears right now. The Chiefs surrendered an alarming 5.0 yards per rush last year, and that's not going to change overnight just because they're playing a 3-4 now and because they picked a couple of big bodies, Tyson Jackson and Alex Magee, with their first two choices in the draft. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...y11/index.html |

OK, I understand the criticism. In fact, I AGREE with the criticism. Our run defense was the worst part about last year's team, but the lack of sacks overshadowed it.
I just don't understand where he gets "that's not going to change overnight" because we picked Jackson and Magee. We've changed as many as 5 guys in our front 7. Why ELSE would it change overnight? Or is he just saying that it won't ever change? Because his basic premise doesn't make any sense. |

While i agree with the premise about our team on paper. It's pretty meaningless because we don't know what impact new coaching, and hopefully a mentality, will have on the overall productivity of our team.

His basic premise is that the front 7 sucks and just because we got 4 or 5 new starters, that isn't going to change. I'm struggling to figure out how it will EVER change if getting new players isn't the answer. |

The run D was awful, but even if you change everything it won't be any better because Peter King says so.

The team's changed coaching staffs, switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4, added 2 old players to its linebacker corps, is moving last year's first round pick to end, is counting on a rookie lineman to step up, and hasn't shown that it's got a viable nose tackle. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he's got them ranked down by the bottom of the barrel.
It's May. It's a power ranking. It's just makework. If it makes people feel better, Steelers fans are furious because there favorite team is ranked #2 instead of #1. |

The logic he used to arrive at that conclusion is questionable, at best. |

Nothing says things can't change before the season starts. However, overblown expectations get players booed, coaches fired and front offices gutted.
It takes time to build a team into a contender, especially when that team is as bereft of talent as the Chiefs were. When you break down teams for talent, where do you really think the Chiefs ranked last year? |

Until they prove differently, the Chiefs are a returning 2-14 team.
Until the rebuilt D line and conglomeration of aging and out of position linebackers form a front 7 to make us believe they'll improve the run defense, I don't see how we can argue for a better ranking at this time. |
