No, batting order is not the least little bit relevant to their production. You set the batting order based on what you got, not the other way around.

This would be like crunching the numbers and figuring out one guy is a beast the last three years on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through Sundays, so you sit him on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In statistics there's a pretty important rule that says "correlation does not necessarily imply causation".

Watching the Royals take BP. It's overcast and humid, but there's a nice breeze.

Seems strange posting from the stadium.

It's relevant only so much as it affects a player's mental approach to the game.

Are they hitting any balls out of the infield?

That said, I understand what you're saying, alnorth. Just don't agree 100 percent.

One or two. Actually somebody hit one over the bleechers.

I think its more likely that something else is causing it. In my silly example above, a player's bad performance might be correlated with Tuesday and Thursday, but then you look into it more and realize he tended to go to wild late night parties more often on Monday and Wednesday, and was tired the next day.

DDJ's production may be more correlated with the calendar than batting order. That is, it is far more likely that the league has simply figured out how to pitch to him.

Here's my two cents for what's going on:

1. Being the "leadoff" hitter forces DDJ to have a more patient approach at the plate. He knows he needs to see pitches and work the count. It's his role in inning 1, and he takes this approach for the rest of the game.

2. The 2 hole typically sees more fastballs.

Cool, Rockies got into a bases loaded 1-out jam with Detroit and got out of it giving up only 1 run.

After watching the team the last 7 days I am predicting the following for today.

We will lose.
We will score 3 runs or less.
We will strike out 8 or more times.
We will make 2 errors.
We will ground into 2 DPs
4 Royals pitchers will take the mound today.

I love the new stadium - this is my first time here. There would be no breeze in the old one.
