This last summer, I was driving out to Virginia Beach, to pick up my wife, and spend some time with the in-laws. I left right after work, so was pretty sure I wouldn't do the whole 1000 miles, without stopping. I never make reservations, just drive until I get too tired, and find a place to plop. That didn't work out so well this time, I pulled off in some little town in Pennsylvania. They were having some Biker fest, kind of like Strurgess NorthEast. Stopped in the Holiday Inn, they wanted $260, went to the Comfort Inn, they wanted $185. So, I go to the Knights Inn, and she said $90. I told her I didn't want to invest in the place, just wanted to sleep a few hours. She said she had a room in the back, that the A/C didn't work, and would let me have it for $65. Holy crap, the sheets were dirty, the carpet torn, and it had one hand towel. I put my T-Shirt over the pillow and crashed. Kept one eye open for bugs. |

My wife and I were staying in the Fairmont in Chicago. It turned out to be the service nightmare from hell, but they also got a customer for life.
When we arrived our room was not ready so we dropped our bags and went sightseeing. When we arrived back at the hotel we decided to stop in the sushi restaurant for a snack. A wanna be ghetto white kid with attitude was our busboy/server. I asked for two glasses of water and menus. About 5 minutes later he returns with two half full waters with no ice. Before I could ask for ice he slams them down and returns to the bar to flirt with the Bartender. I get up and take the water back to the bar and ask for 2 full glasses with ice politely. I was starting to get irritated having been in the Hospitality business for 20 years. As he is returning he looks to the Anglo sushi chef and says in a loud voice can you believe this asshole is bitching about water. I have a horrible temper and the look on my wife face was one of abject horror at what my response would be. I am quite proud that I got up, took my wife hand and quietly said lets go. We walked directly to the front desk and asked them to cancel our reservation. When they inquired why I explained to them the encounter and that if this was the level of service we were going to receive that we would be leaving. They went into full damage control and escorted us to our room. The F&B manager called us and apologized. We got free room service and 2 Bottles of Stag Leaps Reserve Cab. The next day I sent out my suit to be dry cleaned and they lost it. I had dinner reservation that night that required a suit. They brought in a tailor and purchased a suit for me. They then gave the hotel Bentley and Driver to us for the remainder of the stay. I have always told my employees that accidents happen it is how we recover from them that is important. Vailpass is right it is all about how you ask. I love the term "unacceptable" Ang Last edited by angelo; 12-03-2009 at 05:45 PM.. |

Dude, honest to God, if it would have been in the wild west days, I would have just opened the door and shot them. I told the desk clerk at the Holiday Inn Express that I'm staying at tonight about Hotel hell. I also told him if, something like that happens tonight, I would be calling down for a maid to clean the blood up in the hall and a guy with a bag and a cart to pack away the body.
![]() I have never had any issues at this hotel. *Knocks on wood*

One time, at the Double Tree in KC, they had some kind of kids hockey tournament going on, no sleep that night. Another time, had been on the road a couple weeks, and was in Binghamton, NY. I swear some "screamer" gal was getting a train in the next room. The headboard was right up against my wall, miserable night. |
