What makes you a Matt Cassel fan next season?

What does he have to do to convince you he is worth the starting spot? I won't say worth the $ cause I don't think that will ever happen but, that being said....

I'm not making excuses for the guy. I just know we're going to have Cassel this year, and I'm trying to see what everyone else thinks should be done if we're stuck with the guy for at least one more year.

Though I do think Haley's insistence to keep Croyle tells me if Cassel isn't doing well by about half way through this 2010 season, he'll be benched.
Improve the o-line, especially the C, and get him another playmaker, likely a drafted WR, 2nd round.

And FWIW, it was a full 9 percent the year before, when Cassel was in an ideal situation. 49 vs 40.
Do you think he is improving then? Going from 9% down to 5% with with worse receivers? I didn't watch his NE play, will be the first to admit.

If it were me, I'm drafting Clausen if he magically falls to 5.
You don't think that Clausen will have the same Cassel-like problems? They both are west-coast style QBs. I bet Clausen would have a bad completion % past 10 yards too.

They're actually quite a bit alike. I know Clausen might be better than Cassel, but Clausen doesn't strike me as a playmaker type who will push the ball down the field.

His TD-INT ratio got messed up because he threw 10 INT in six games.

That Buffalo game was harsh...

But if he's still around this year, and he's going to be, what do you suggest we do RIGHT now to improve this team?

You're not comprehending what I'm saying.

2008 Cassel was 5 percent behind 2009 Rodgers
2008 Cassel was 9 percent behind 2008 Rodgers

2009 Cassel was a whopping 8 and 12 percent behind. So, there's no improvement.

Statistically, he was a top 10 player with NE last year. For a guy that hadn't started in the NFL or college for about 8 years or so, that's pretty damn good.

I don't think it's rocket science, there are holes everywhere.

But like I said a few weeks ago, the defense and running game played well enough to win against Cincy. Cassel didn't...so it makes you wonder what happens when the rest of the team is good.

No, I don't. I think he's the anti-Cassel, in many respects. But, with all prospects, there are many people who will disagree, including some good posters on this site.

Its not rocket science, I know. One of the cool things about being this crappy and having a high draft pick is you can pretty much pick up whoever is there and do well. I know that's some f'd up optimism but its true. Do you think we should draft a QB at five? Do you really think there's ever a chance we will?

**** it.

This franchise needs to take a chance and pull the trigger.

We will never find out until they try.

BTW to all of the "Don't take a 1st round QB, it will set the franchise back 5 years" people: It doesn't get much worse, and it won't set the franchise back 5 years.

No, I'm not really a fan of any of the quarterbacks. And of course, they won't.

Well, I'm out of ideas. I know people want us to get Mays at five, and although he's great, I wonder if he will help us stop the run like we NEED to. And we still need better receivers, though a first rounder isn't for that.

I'm the opposite of most people on here: my opinion is I don't have one. I totally don't know what the problem is with this passing team. I see Cassel freak out in about .5 seconds of being back in the pocket and getting sacked 40 times which makes me think protection issues. I also see the most drops in recorded history, which makes me think Receiving. But then I come back around and think some to most is still on him.

Ok, that fits more with what I was watching. I am trying hard to remain open minded, but watching the guy makes it hard.

Even grasping, trying to find any improvement as a Chief this year, he may have started getting rid of the ball quicker, but I have no evidence to back that up.

He was still staring down receivers, and inaccurate.

Another I notice is when his primary WRs are covered he starts looking at the passrush and scrambles instead of keeping his eyes down field and going through the progressions for the hotread.
