Lions "might make a place" for Dorsey

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf...ons_rooki.html

Phil: I've heard on more than one occasion that the Lions should swing a deal for DT Glenn Dorsey. I haven't heard much from him in Kansas City, what has he done? What could his trade value be and why would the Chiefs trade him since they spent a 2008 1st round pick on him?
Tom Kowalski: Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham was on the Chiefs' staff when Kansas City drafted him and Cunningham really likes the kid. The reason he might be available is because the Chiefs drafted Dorsey as a 4-3 defensive tackle and they've now switched schemes and he's playing a 3-4 end. Neither the Chiefs nor Dorsey is apparently happy with the results and that's why I think the Lions might make a play for him in the off-season. I still think it's a longshot, but it's a shot worth taking.
As for trade value, I'm not sure what he'd cost. I think you might see something a little creative, like swapping of picks in a round or two, as opposed to a straight-up one-for-one deal. We'll see if this heats up as we get closer to the draft.

EDIT: I meant "might make a play" but don't know how to change the subject.

Does anybody else think this is a ploy by Detroit to attempt to get Suh's agent to trim down the contract price? I could see them already trying to get some of the top draft picks contracts lined up prior to the draft, and I can imagine that Suh is going to be costly. Being that it is clear they won't go QB, and they won't go safety most likely, Suh's agent kind of has them over a barrel since it is clear Detroit needs a DT.

I have no better guess than the rest of you, but it seems like a decent way to try and gain some leverage over Suh's agent... not very much though.

Hell, maybe Detroit gives a 2nd rounder this year for Dorsey and still drafts Suh. That would be a pretty damn good pair of DT's.

Detroit is going to draft Suh so I don't know why they would go after Dorsey even though I think Schwartz would be the perfect coach for him.

Found this gem on WPI.

Quote:
Lions WILL take a DT this year at #2 either Suh or McCoy....

#1) Rams select Clausen(QB)

Trade:

Lions get:

Dorsey(DT
#5

Chiefs get:
#2
#34

#2) Suh(3-4 DE)

Then have 3 2nd rounders
That's right, we trade Dorsey for another 5-tech, this time at #2 overall.

The key for the Chiefs to get Eric Berry all rests if the Rams take Jimmy Claussen or not.

That would then force McCoy to 3.

This isn't saying much but Glenn Dorsey was probably our best defensive lineman this year. I don't care if he isn't your typical 3-4 DE, he played pretty good for his first year at the position. We probably wouldn't get good value in a trade anyways.

If I read that right, that guy is saying we trade Dorsey for the #2 and #34 picks.

I dont care about the money ramifications, if they were willing to go full reerun in that fashion, that would be a deal we would be running away laughing about for years because we straight up ripped them historically.

Suh+#34 overall>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dorsey

Its way off kilter because of the reeruned value of both sides, but we would be straight up fools to pass that up.

Yeah, I'm sure Detroit would be jumping all over that. Give up a generational player like Suh for Dorsey and a high second round pick. Do people still think Matt Millen's in charge?
