Since Spazod can't deal with ignore, likes to trash talk when he knows he's being ignored and doesn't have the sand to put his membership on the line and insists on being this way....This is thunderdome.

My proposal was that this be a poll, and the loser of this thread rumble leaves forever. Spaz isn't down for that.

Think Harvard/Yale, but for entirely different reasons. And substitute beer and bbq for lobster rolls and chardonnay.

Interesting. Being born in Boston, I grew up with a particular view of history. I mean, when you're the first state, literally, you don't really have those kind of growing pains (never a territory, never any slave vs. free thing going on, never battled it out much with a nearby state literally or figuratively). The other New England states (ME, VT, NH, RI, CT) were always sort of like little siblings, and don't really compare to MA in historical terms. (Hell, even now, most of NE doesn't consider CT part of it, but more a large bedroom-suburb of NYC.)

Also, being born in Boston, I obviously got the heavy dose of colonial history, but after the Revolutionary War was won most of the history courses in grade school up here consisted of, "Uh, Lewis and Clark, Mark Twain, great push to the west coast, Louisiana Purchase, Gold Rush, Texas and Mexico had some issues, then we bought Alaska".

In terms of the Civil War, again, MA is smack-dab in the "antislavery, Union" category, so there wasn't much discussion/debate around that in history classes either.

Thanks. It's turning some lights on in the darkened corners of the mind, LOL. I haven't read up on this stuff since I was about 14.
