Chiefs QB.........I've been wrong before....

FT Daily: Chiefs rebuilding doesn't guarantee Cassel a job

Posted by Mike Florio on March 11, 2010 1:37 PM ET
Last month, Rosenthal pointed out some stuff about the contract given last year to Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel.

Bottom line? He might only have one more year to turn things around.

And there are some interesting alternatives available, if Cassel can't improve in 2010. For more, we give you PFT Daily.

Wouldn't drafting Clausen be an admission by Pioli that (after a full season of evaluation) Cassel was a mistake?

And wouldn't that make Pioli someone that is NOT stubborn and does NOT cling to his mistakes?

At the end of the day, however, I'd rather have him make that kind of move next year, when there should be an actual franchise QB available in the draft.

Cassel's eyebrows alone have enough power to strike fear into Brodie's groin muscle.

Yup.

Don't ask me why but it seemed like as Charles turned it up he played worse. Makes no sense but he was less and less impressive.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I think that Croyle is the darkhorse in this situation. He is clearly the most talented QB on the roster. If and that is a big IF Weis sees Brodie up close and watches him throw whose to say that he wouldn't want Brodie starting instead of Cassel? I know that this is highly unlikely given Brodie ability to shatter at the sight of a blitz, but still.....Camp is going to be very interesting if it is the Croyle vs. Cassel showdown again this year.

The truth is that none of know what we're dealing with in the new regime just yet whether it be Haley, Pioli, Crennel or Weis. People may like to think they do but their still a lump of clay being molded into a collective group that will be making decisions together. No one will have a single say and there's not enough of a sample pool to predict their future decisions especially with Haley and Pioli because they're in new positions.

No, I don't know, you don't know, none of do. Deal with reality even here on the intraweb every now and then.

Yep. He's gonna make Cassel look like dog shit, and very well could be starting half way through the season if Cassel looks like he did last year. I seriously don't think Weis will stand behind Cassel, and Brodie's talent is just too hard to ignore.
I'm pissed at Brodie that he has not rocked up for this. I really think he could be a player if he could stay on the field. 20lbs of muscle would go along way toward preventing another inj.
I wonder what weis could pull out of Brodie.

Didn't read this before I posted. Good Point. Like I said, Croyle's abilities will be very hard to overlook.

Croyle also has a full season under his belt in 2009 where he didn't get hurt. And he took a few bruising hits. Especially in the Ravens game.

I think Croyle is the right quarterback to push Cassel. That is why they tendered him.
