Hey nerds, do you remember seeing Star Trek IV in 1986? Did you get all choked up, too?

I absolutely had the same experience! (Back in the days before pre-internet spoilers) and I went into the movie with zero expectations.
Was certain that they'd get Excelsior...
Then the Alexander Courage theme music cue kicks in as we crest the Excelsior and see OUR ENTERPRISE REBORN.

I am not too proud to say I cheered and cried at the same time. And no need to be ashamed of it because the WHOLE AUDIENCE was doing the same thing!

I experienced the exact same emotions when I saw this in 1986... I was certain it'd be Excelsior, I always hated that ship.

Then they cleared it and we saw NCC-1701-A and the whole crowd gave it a standing ovation.

I have to also say, seeing the original Enterprise die 2 years earlier in 1984 was the first time I cried in a movie theater... And I was far from alone... My whole family consoled me.

I think everyone in that special showing at the Cannon Cinema in 1986 cried at that point. It was very poignant after the comedy and fulfilment of the movie that the ending was the beginning of the new voyages of the starship Enterprise - NCC-1701 - A!

This was the only moment I can remember when people in the theater cheered and hugged each other. Everyone had the same feeling of joy! Star Trek can do that too you if you let it. Hears hoping JJ Trek provides the same feelings. Please don't cut out things like this for the sake of young kids. Who only care about explosions, loud noises, and how cute the actor is

I was one of the suckers who thought that they would get Excelsior at the end, and was absolutely SHOCKED when 1701A came into view. I was at a pre-release screening, and I must not have been the only one surprised, because the entire theatre erupted in cheers at that very moment. Great memories.

I was 15 and saw this in the first showing in our town back in 1986. Anyway, when the shuttle crested the Excelsior's hull and we saw our first glimpse of the new Enterprise, the audience's response was a THUNDEROUS standing ovation. We couldn't even hear the rest of the movie. I still get chills when I remember that

heh....i remember people clapped....but i dont think i got all choked up.

Yep.....I did think the ending with the 1701A was awesome...I did get choked up when I first saw that. I also started using the phrase "Double Dumbass on you" regularly the next few years in elementary school after watching the film.
