$10/month Works with PS3, 360, Blu-ray players, wifi-TVs, iPhone, and iPad. So much for Hulu not working on the iPad. I'm wondering if it's actually worth $10 a month when Netflix is increasing their streaming library fast and has most of the shows already. Season pass, though, might be the dealbreaker, though. |

Who do you have in KC? Time Warner? Listen, all cable companies are the devil, but Comcast is ****ing INFINITELY better than the shit hole known as, Time Warner. Welcome to getting the NFL Network for starters.

I live in Excelsior Springs (I know you know where, and how small, that community is). We have one cable option - Mediacom.

It is more about the principle of the matter, anyway. Why should I have to pay a monthly fee for something I can watch for free over the air, or through my cable provider, or on my computer, and THEN have to deal with ads on top of that? **** that noise. |

This is unrelated to most everything in this thread, but If you lice in San Diego county you only get one cable company option too. Pretty crazy considering how big it is.

No doubt. When I visited Tuscaloosa back in March I was drooling that people had ESPN2 in HD. And by drooling, I mean fapping.

So everyone knew this was coming. I have to subscribe for business reasons. Potentially good, BUT, there will be big caveats I'm guessing you'll be restricted till the day after the show again. The HD will be mostly marginal. It's only 720P and will be significantly compressed
But considering it's kinda a mix between regular and expanded cable it's not really a bad deal for $10 a month if you have no cable. And yes, sooner ore later you're going to see bandwidth caps from every major service provider. It's just a requirement there's no way to get around it once streaming video becomes popular enough. Consider 'basic' quality of 1.5Mb/s which is nothing to write home about. At that level you're using ~700MB per hour or around 5.5GB per day if you use the general 8hrs per household per day. At 20 days per month of watching that's 100GB per month of bandwidth. Now you put 720p and the minimum bit rate is going to probably be 3-4.5Mb/s or 200-300GB per month. Get enough people doing it and it starts to add up big time. It sucks but it's also a massive bandwidth consumer. Of course this doesn't even touch 1080p bandwidth requirements. If you want bluray quality you need 30-40Mb/s

For me, it's all financial. I can pay $90 extra for cable HD and DVR. Or pay $10 and still get 98% of what I want to see through hulu and OTA .

Yeah, and it doesn't in any way obscure the show's quality. Still, I own the first two seasons on Blu-ray and I will purchase the 3rd season on Blu-ray on release day.

Yeah... or you could just torrent everything, which is EXACTLY what I would do if I went away from television services.
