looking for a new car...

I'm looking for a relatively new car finally after having my old one forever it seems. I just graduated from college about a year ago and my new job I've had for about a year has given me some good money. I came across a 2010 Toyota 4runner that has 5,000 miles on it for like $30,000. I'm gonna get them down obviously, but is this a good deal from the start? I wonder how much I can get them down. I could get a new car for that much dough that will be some of my ammunition. I'm looking for either a Toyota Highlander, 4runner. All my family has Toyotas as well as my fiancee. I love them. Now I want one lol. Thoughts?

hugs and kisses

Nothing wrong with getting a car loan you can afford if you want to drive something nice.
A car is an expense, not an investment.
If driving a nice new vehicle is worth the expense to you then don't let anyone tell you how to spend your money.

All I can afford now is to make a down payment up front. Only $9,000 is all I can put down. But I need a new car as my old one has bit it, I want something that will last me forever as I'm not the type that likes to get new cars every other year and whatnot. My fiancee' takes me to work now, my old car bit the bullet last week lol.

I just bought an 02 Ranger Edge with 80k for 4600 cash, runs perfect looks great and best of all, no car payments.... Lots of nice cars out there, take your 9k and buy something with 40k on it and drive it until you have enough to buy your next one cash... Its a a lot harder to let go of 30k when you actually have 30k and you are handing it to someone else...

30k vehicle
Payments 500-700 per month
extra insurance costs probably 100 per month
depreciation is 100 per week for the first 4 years you own that car...

so basically that car is costing you 1100-1500 bucks a month to drive..

Hope it rides good

It's not your money when you are borrowing it. If you are super rich, buy anything you want, but if you are a working man, you better buy what you can afford and take care of it.... I think America was slapped in the face during this recession and I hope people have learned and will prosper as a result this time around....

There's no way I'm gonna pay 30k, heck no. I'm gonna get the price down of whatever car I choose to less than that. If they don't want to do it, then that's ok, I'll go somewhere else definitely. I just want something that's gonna last me forever so I won't have to buy again.

It's your money you use to make payments. The interest is the expense you choose to pay.

To each his own. Loans are a very effective financial tool when used properly. There are several solid reasons for not driving a $9,000 car including warranty coverage and utility gained.

it's not gonna last forever.... regardless shit always happens..

You are a full grown man and I am sure you are fully capable of making your own decisions so you do what you want to do.

Got a friend right now who just went out with an illness he does not even know he has right after buying a brand new Toyota truck.... and he was broke when he bought it even though he makes over 80k a year...

Wonder how he is gonna make that payment now...

Good luck to you whichever way you decide to go.
