All he did was dump the ****ing ball off.

His QB rating is 95.3.

Henceforth, any defense of Cassel using the QB rating statistic will be completely ignored and ridiculed.

I agree with everything you've stated here, except the comment about the fan base.

I think that 99% of the fan base is absolutely ecstatic that the Chiefs are 5-2. They're playing good defense, running the ball well and most importantly, winning games. Chiefs fan in the metro KC area on are on a high once again after the Chiefs win.

I'm getting emails and phone calls about the Chiefs, hearing from people all over the country who are fans and those who aren't fans but know that I'm a fan. I have friends on different continents and countries around the world that want to know the scores of the games and details.

But the difference between the overwhelming majority of the fan base and a select few that post in this forum is that they understand that this isn't a complete team. While the running game and defense are certainly playoff caliber (if not championship caliber), the QB position leaves a lot to be desired. And while it's possible that the Chiefs could conceivably win their first playoff game since 1993, it's isn't likely that they move beyond that game due to the play of the quarterback.

Most people will take a winning season and a playoff game and be happy about it. Other will be disappointed because they believe this team could be so much more, regardless of where they were last year, the year before or the year before, if the play of the QB was even average.

Yep, that's exactly how I feel. And when my friends and I all talk about how much fun it is to watch the Chiefs this year, despite Cassel, I always bring up my nagging, Debbie-Downerish fear that we have so many pieces in place, but Cassel is a fatal flaw. Worse, any move we make to upgrade at QB could take a couple seasons to be effective (whether via draft or another team's backup, which seems to be our m.o.), and in the meantime, other elements of the team will probably deteriorate.

My hope is that the next couple seasons go like this: Maintain our secondary, because it is good enough for us to win a championship. Upgrade the LB's, and this position will need some serious attention. I'm actually feeling pretty good about the defensive line (except Tyson Jackson, he is awful) that I think we can probably just augment a couple pieces, maybe like replacing Ron Edwards with another serviceable backup. Draft a center because I don't know how many more seasons Weigmann has in him, and leave the rest of the offensive line alone so we can have Albert, Asamoah, Lilja, new center, and Barry Richardson as our OL. Obviously, upgrade the QB position. I would hope through the draft, but like you said, we honestly only need an average QB to win with this team. I'm no fan of grabbing another team's backup, but if it happens, I just hope we find someone who is capable of hitting receivers in stride and who doesn't panic nearly half as much as Cassel in the pocket. Then we need to get a WR to replace Chambers, so we could have Bowe, new WR, McCluster, and Moeaki as our receiving threats. I'm pretty happy with that.
Finally, I think Jones probably has a couple season left in his tank because he's shown he has crazy durability, but we have to be thinking about a replacement. I love the balance of the running game this year, and I think we need to maintain that for our championship run.

So it is possible to maintain this team long enough for a different QB to make a championship run. I just hope we make the right moves. I'm tired of how many different Chiefs teams I've watched that were lacking in one crucial element of the game that prevented us from being as good a team as we need to be to win it all.

If this was year 8 of a 5 year plan I'd be worried. We're set up for the classic playoff choke game.

But it's not.

It's ****ing year 2 of a rebuild.

In year 2 we're ONE GAME BEHIND THE ****ING PATRIOTS! ONE GAME! SO !1!

It's actually Year Three.

But in today's NFL, it shouldn't take longer than three years to build a playoff contender. 2010 was a little different due to the changes in the CBA (Six years of service to become an unrestricted free agent instead of five years) but nonetheless, it shouldn't take five years to build a playoff contender, let alone eight years.

The biggest bummer is that die hard Chiefs fans have seen this before. The defense is good enough but either the running backs or quarterback isn't good enough.

When the running backs and quarterback is good enough, the defense isn't good enough.

I realize that Pioli thought he was doing the right thing by trading for Cassel but at this point in time, it appears that the only thing standing between the Chiefs and a deep playoff run is the play of the QB.

I think that what most of us of die hards want to see is a complete teams, something we haven't seen since the 60's.
