I was considering learning Spanish.

Anyone ever learned a new language? is so, what did you use to learn it? what was your experience? how long did it take to do so?

i took a couple years in high school, but that was a long time ago and i've forgotten much of what i skipped then.

I'd like to learn that so I could understand what more of you are talking about all of the time.

basically, there's alot of mexicans moving in, and with my job, it would be very nice if we could actually communicate verbally instead of hand signs and the translator on the phone (usually a friend of their's who actually learned our language).

And i don't think it would be a bad thing to expand my knowledge for the future.

Sign up for livemocha.com and do all the spanish courses. It might be enough for what you need. (It is free,also)

I speak three languages.

Depends on what would you need it for. Is it for academic purposes? Regular conversations? Job? Travel?

I learned the two additional languages for academic purposes so it may toke longer if you intend on using it that way. However, if you want a good way to learn how to get yourself around then try the Pimsleur method. Get his Spanish CDs. He uses repetition. It is helpful if you want to just understand the basics.

You need to get used to the new language. Make it something you see and use everyday. Change your phone's language to Spanish, your browser (google chrome allows that) to Spanish, listen to as much audio as possible in Spanish, sign up via email to word of the day and get a new Spanish word every day. Use verbix.com to see how words are conjugated.

I still wouldn't do it. They can learn our language. We don't NEED to learn theirs.

livemocha.com is good. Pawnmower does bring in some good shit from time to time and this is one of them.

Get Pemsliur for Spanish in your mp3 player. Use it while you drive, work out, piss, shit and sleep. You will be able to get yourself started and with using it everyday, you should be fine in 3 or 4 months.

Pimsleur is pretty good for practicing, I can probably get you a link to download the spanish #1 on pimsleur (i think its about 15 hours of audio, on mp3's)....

You really have to sit in peace and quiet for 30 minutes at a time, and study it and repeat things out loud for it to work though, its not something you can really throw on at the gym or while driving IMO...Maybe for repetition....but it is much better to be at home (or somehwere quiet) while you listen to it and follow the instructions...

I collected almost every CD pimsleur has (like 20 languages worth LOL), so I can get you the spanish one no problem.....just need to dig it up..

However - I believe www.livemocha.com is superior to pimsleur now...Pimsleur was good for back in the day though...But sites like livemocha are really much better

It's a shame that it's "good knowledge to have" in order to communicate with immigrants in our own country.
