2011 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2011 Slogan: "Major League Moments"

A better, more accurate 2011 Slogan: "Cheap tickets and free sh**"
(from jbwm89)

Back by popular demand, this is the 2011 version of the Royals Repository Thread. Get ready for another year of really bad baseball as we patiently wait for one of the greatest farm systems in modern MLB history to send mega-hyped prospects up to Omaha and beyond.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If anyone cares (I really don't), the Royals won the Cactus League. (SF would be back on winning percentage even if they win tomorrow) Royals finish with a 20-10 spring training record (10-5 home and away), which was about 2 wins higher than our pythag.

Spring Training records are obviously bullcrap, but it would be nice if this forshadowed something a little closer to .450-.500 than anyone expected.

This is the greatest thing in modern history:

1985 by rjazayerli

Ambres just let it fall
He never caught the ball
Just one out to go
Nineteen losses in a row

Our dreams went out the door
After 1994
Only had one good year
When our future seemed so clear

Affeldt was another Koufax
Berroa was gonna be a star
Lima Time could kick some ass
MacDougal threw really hard

Turns out 2003
Was an anomaly
Look at our crappy team
And it’s all been a bad dream

Since Hal McRae, and George Brett
Way before the sun set
There was Frank White, Balboni
No outfield throws nailed Ken Harvey

Fans of teams with big bucks
They tell us that our team sucks
But we’re still preoccupied…with 19, 19, 1985

1985

We had a great rotation
Jackson and Leibrandt
Gubicza, Saberhagen, and even Buddy Black
We loved Dick Howser
Not a better manager
No one ever got a lead
Off Dan Quisenberry

Where’s our shortstop on David Letterman
And why’s our Opening Day starter Scott Elarton
Why is Zack Greinke in Milwaukee
Whatever happened to – Dane Iorg, Sundberg, and Don Denkinger

Hal McRae, and George Brett
Way before the sun set
There was Frank White, and Motley
And no one traded for Neifi

Fans of teams with big bucks
They tell us that our team sucks
We’ve had to swallow our pride…since 19, 19, 1985

We’re fed up
With last place
Why did Schuerholz leave for the Atlanta Braves (Atlanta Braves)
And why did Pena get a subpoena

Please make this stop, stop, stop

And bring back
McRae, and George Brett
Way before the sun set
There was Frank White, and Willie
And no Eduardo Villacis

Fans of teams with big bucks
They tell us that our team sucks
DeJesus didn’t break out in hives…in 1985

Hal McRae, and George Brett
Way before the sun set
There was Frank White, and Lonnie
And no Eduardo Villacis

Fans of teams with big bucks
They tell us that our team sucks
But we’re still preoccupied…with 19, 19, 1985

(All rights reserved, with one exception. Not only do I give the Royals permission to play this song at Kauffman Stadium, but if they do so during a game, I will pledge $100 to a charity of their choice. And if a player uses this as his walk-up music, I’ll donate $100 to a charity of his choice as well.)

I wish I could bottle this type of enthusiasm for the dog days when this team is 15 games out.

Strange combination right now because it's an exciting year, but the team is going to be absolutely ****ing terrible, largely because the staff is abysmal.

That is epic. You can't go wrong with an Eduardo Villacis reference.

OP files updated.

The Royals apparently gave Robert Fish back to Anaheim yesterday, so we're only carrying 1 rule V guy right now. Barrera was put on the 60-day DL a couple weeks ago, so he doesn't count against our 40-man roster. Kendall is still injured, and Treanor is obviously not making the club. Take those two out, and I count 25 on the Royals web site.

Looks like the active roster is set, though moves can still be made tomorrow. (I assume Treanor to AAA, and Kendall to 15-day or maybe a rehab assignment) 40-man roster is also set, given that we probably aren't going to put Kendall on the 60-day.

I'll wait a few weeks for the options to be officially burned before updating the available options. I don't think Treanor has an option, but I assume he'll accept the optional assignment.

I thought Treanor was catching opening day?

It's about 3/4 of the way down in this article...

ahh, ok. For some reason I thought he was destined for AAA. I guess May will be the odd man out tomorrow then.

Gordon is in great shape and in the prime of his career. I expect him to suck.
