**Official MU Head Coach Search Thread**

Seems like this deserves its own thread. The news will start coming fast over the next week or two, IMO. Recruiting is a 365-day event and we can't afford to be rudderless for long.

My vote - Cuonzo Martin.

Curator: Board will have 'a lot of questions' about Haith

by VAHE GREGORIAN STLtoday.com | Posted: Monday, April 4, 2011 10:22 am | No Comments Posted

Among the masses surprised and perhaps even perplexed by Mizzou's apparent hiring of Miami's Frank Haith late Sunday night was David Wasinger, a member of Missouri's Board of Curators who said that the first he'd heard about Haith was in the Post-Dispatch on Monday morning.

As he prepared for a curators meeting to be conducted by telephone from University Hall in Columbia at 7:45 p.m. tonight, Wasinger said, "The board is going to have a lot of questions."

Missouri's curators must approve a potential deal with Haith, whom a source close to the search committee acknowledged late Sunday had accepted an offer. Numerous other media outlets also reported Haith had taken the job.

Wasinger added that he was aware of disappointment and disapproval being expressed about Haith, who has a reputation as a strong recruiter but took Miami to the NCAA Tournament just once in his seven seasons as a head coach.

Wasinger, a St. Louis-based attorney, suggested alumni let whatever their feelings are about Haith be known to board members around the state before tonight's meeting.

Wasinger added that he looked forward to hearing athletics director Mike Alden explain the rationale for Haith and hoped for a happy outcome.

I'm grasping at straws at this point.
That's a murderers row of successful college coaches that preceded him, eh?

When he's doing about as well as all the other shitty guys that coached there before him, perhaps that's not a ringing endorsement of his prospects for future success.

Every time someone tries to defend this hire, it comes out looking worse. "Well, maybe he's the next Rick Barnes!"...."Well look, he wasn't much different than the bad coaches that came before him!"...."He was just a good coach in a bad situation, but seriously, he doesn't know shit about offense."

Just stop, fellas. You're not helping.

This was a bad hire - period. And what Patteau continues to ignore is that even if he has a couple of good seasons, he's an East Coast guy and he'll be gone the season after he has even moderate success here.

There is absolutely no upside to this hire - none whatsoever.

Id give this a week to let the emotions cool, give the guy some face time, and see what he is like. My bet is in a week, Alden will be back on top, public will be high on the new coach and what he brings, and expectations will be back in line.

How ****ing fantastic would it be if that meeting ended w/ Alden getting canned?

Hell, if we're going to suck, we might as well start from scratch.

I'm pretty sure ol' Mitch hasn't said a bad word about Herm to this day but Herm was a ****ing idiot.

Haith's 'defensive emphasis' has been abused by teams all over the country. In fact, some of the first things I read about him were how awful his defenses were. Then to read that the 'glowing' reviews of him include the fact that he has no idea how to handle an offense...oh well that just makes it better.

As for the Snider hire, I was probably 12 at the time, I have no idea what I thought. Though I did like the Anderson hire.

You're talking to one of the few people that thought Steve Alford might be an okay get and had talked himself into Gregg Marshall and Doug Wojcik. DOUG ****ING WOJCIK.

I'm not some alarmist rube that hasn't bothered to educate himself on the candidates. I wasn't going to fly off the handle no matter who he hired. When you can convince yourself that Steve Alford is a reasonable alternative, you can convince yourself of damn near anything.

Then he hired this guy. This schmuck who's former team was happy to see him leave so they wouldn't have to buy him out. The guy with the best big man in the conference who doesn't try to get him the ball. But hey, at least he's only 45, I mean we shouldn't expect him to understand basic X and O basketball at this point, right?

This hire sucks. It absolutely goddamn sucks.
OK, you're no rube and you've already got it figured out. Don't jump back on the bandwagon if this guy ends up being a winner then.

Should have hired someone who will stay there for a long time. This guy probably won't.

They were this close to doing so in 2006, to the point that Alden called Anderson and told him the deal might be off.

Hopefully for you guys they've learned their lesson over the past 5 years and finish the job.

I hope the BOC grills Alden like hell on this hire, and then I hope they leak like a sieve so we know what his answers were.

And I expect you to fall on your sword when he sucks dicks.

You say there's no downside to being 'unhinged' here when I know you're not going to stand up and admit everyone was right if/when this guy turns out to be awful or when he leaves at the first sign of success.

Nah, at best you'll provide some nothing of a truism like "I just thought he needed time to be evaluated" just like the spineless assholes that spent 2 years backing a lame horse in Matt Cassel.
