That scares me more than the English announcement.

Well the good news is that this guy can evidently recruit.
So go ahead and leave. Maybe he can bring in a handful of players over the next few years for a qualified coach to get something out of in 2015.

Just ****ing great. BOC turns down Haith, fires Alden. Tosses up a hail mary and snags Stevens and Frank still goes to Miami.

If they shoot that hire down, don't they have to fire him?
He'd have absolutely no credibility left at that point. After the Big 10 mess, the Anderson thing, the Painter miscalculation (and the leak that came from his office), he'd be a complete lame duck. If the BoC rejects the hire, they have to can his ass. Ultimately I think that's why they won't do it. They'll give him enough rope to hang himself.

I would be very careful about blocking this hire, as ... perplexing ... as it is. You do that, you have to get rid of Alden (if he doesn't resign first).
That's not going to suddenly get you the coach you were hoping for. You'll get stuck with something just as bad, maybe even worse. Worse, that kind of implosion could have serious ripple effects. I wonder what Pinkel would think of that. MU would be seen as highly toxic around the nation. What decent AD or coach hire would want to come here anytime soon? There are worse things you can do than hire a mediocre-to-bad basketball coach. It might be more prudent to grill Alden to get all his reasons for doing this, then approve the hire while (as DJ said) explicitly tying Alden's fate to Haith's. They're both on very short leashes, and if Haith does indeed fail, then it would be easier to get rid of both without suffering the kind of repercussions you get from not trusting your AD to make a hire, to not give it a chance to succeed before judging it. |

"We're hearing the concerns loud and clear".
50/50 chance. This could be epic. Could they really disapprove Haith's contract & fire Alden? BUT, knowing Mizzou's luck, they'll barely approve it by one vote.

And as you've noted, they need to be careful not to unsettle Pinkel. I don't see the nuclear option coming to pass.
