HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)
EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...
This is awesome... Huge, Huge News Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM HBO has given the production order. They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES. It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass. It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series. More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already. Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn. Last edited by keg in kc; 04-25-2011 at 03:58 PM.. |

If I remember correctly, I think I recall Jamie telling Loras to back off or he will stick his sword somewhere that Renly couldnt even find. So the hints were there I just wasn't expecting to be slammed with it.

When Boromir got stabbed in the leg at the end of the episode and fell to his knees I thought they were going to cut to an Orc firing an arrow into his chest.

The actor who played Niles is Gay? What? You're ruining my world, LOL! I thought that the actors that played Bulldog and the Dad where the only gays in that village.

Great episode, even with the chest shaving and the sword swallowing. (that doesn't make me gay, does it? nttiawwt) Hopefully they'll counter next week by showing Dany and the red headed whore getting the bejesus banged out of them.
Tyrion's cell in the Aerie was fantastic. Really captured the mood from the books. The whole scene with Lissa and her son (what's his name?) was completely straight out of the book. |

I object more to the depiction of Loras as a conniving, power-hungry schemer than as homosexual. Though I suppose pretty much everyone in Westeros (besides Ned Stark) is a conniving schemer.

No doubt. Up until this point I've felt the series was pretty dead on with the book. What they've done with Loras just doesn't mesh.

I bet GoChiefs liked this episode more now that he found some characters he can relate to.

A Knight that practiced swordsplay every day, with the heavy swords that the Knights of Westeros use, would have strong muscular arms. In the books Renly isn't really a fleshed out character, but one thing is clear: He is a charismatic leader. The way he is being portrayed in the show makes him out to be a whiny, insecure effeminate sissy that needs to be convinced by his gay lover to stake a claim to the throne. They might as well have made Tyrion 5'5" tall. |

I agree that they could have done a much better job with Loras, though. He's not convincing as a badass fighter. The episode makes it seem more like he got lucky against the Mountain than had any skill.

I watched the last episode again because I couldn't fall asleep last night. Frazod is right, there is a Liberal agenda. when I got to the scene with Lysa and her son it, dawned on me that Lysa is the only Lady in the castle. Robert Arryn is sucking on the government teat. GRRM gives a tacit endorsement of the Nanny state.
