Late night bullshit: Chiefs needs, aside from QB.

I love how Pioli looked at the Chiefs performance in last year's playoff game, and he makes priority #A1 to upgrade the WR position.

Added Breaston. Drafted Baldwin. Picked Colbert off the scrap heap.

I think when the season wraps up this year, Pioli's going to look over this team and decide that it needs to have its passrush revamped to help out Hali much like he helped out Bowe.

The problem with this, of course, is that it's muuuuuch harder to rush the passer than it is to run a route and receive passes. As a result, there's really no OLB on the scene in 2012 that are working picking up through free agency. OLB will need to be a very early pick for the Chiefs.

Defensive line will need to be upgraded as well. Dorsey will be in his contract year, and Pioli has no loyalty to him because he was an Edwards pick. It's possible that Allen Bailey is that guy, but the Chiefs need to fortify the position anyway because holding onto Wallace Gilberry will be very difficult. It also isn't clear that Bailey can do much to rush the passer. Dorsey and Jackson can't either, so a DE specialized in applying pressure, maybe?

NT is more of a concern for me than it is for the Chiefs, who may be willing to resign both Gregg and Amon Gordon. But I'd like to see a stud, especially with how well Chapman played tonight for Alabama.

Depth across our secondary should be a concern. The way the league is changing, a team cannot survive without a talented and deep secondary. Resigning Carr must happen, and Berry must recover from his injury. But we need more CB and especially S help.

Offensive line is going to look pretty set, so long as we find a new right tackle: [new RT] [Asamoah] [Hudson] [Lilja] [Albert]. Depth at tackle will also be needed, and other than Darryl Harris, we have no depth along the interior.

We could use another receiving TE option, and a big back at RB, but we all know this.

Here's where I rank our needs:

1. OLB
2. RT
3. RB
4. TE
5. DE
6. S
7. OT

Guard is a pretty big need at this point. Lilja's done, IMO.

How are we 3 deep?

Going into 2012 Gregg will be nearing retirement and will not play as well. We don't know about Powe yet. Gordon looks good at times, but he's been an NFL journeyman and has never been consistent in his career. It's still a serious need.

And while I would put RT above NT, how can you leave NT off your list of 7 top needs.

QB- Draft one but unlike others on the board i'm not sure I would dump Cassel next year he could have some value if the rookie isn't ready to be a starter.

RT- Richardson is one of the worst in the league and Gathier can't stay healthy.

TE- Moaki just can't stay healthy perhaps making him a part time player would add years to his career.

NT- Only if Gregg doesn't have anything left in the tank.

ILB- We need some depth here. I still would bring in somebody to compete with Belcher.

Safety- We'll be set when Berry comes back but we have no depth.

at you arguing both sides of this debate.

I could probably pull up a quote of you from early this year when you were arguing that a 4-3 team would outbid us for him, when you were right.

Gilberry has more value in a 4-3.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just trying to stay realistic.

For instance, the Chiefs are not going to look for a potential starter at QB this offseason. Anybody who's arguing anything different is deluding themselves.

The Chiefs looooove Kelly Gregg. And Crennel loves Amon Gordon. Powe is an unknown, yes.

I argued that 4-3 team would outbid for him based on what he did last year.

So far what he did last year is looking like a fluke and he's just an above average sub player. We'll probably resign him for a very affordable deal.
