Is it because MU fans need to make things seem bad for us? I really, really hope this hire turns out to be great and makes them all eat crow. Admittedly, I wasn't completely sold when it was announced. But his press conference and interviews have made me feel better about him coming to KU. Ultimately, though, it all comes down to the product on the field.

Not true at all. He was told on Thursday that he would know by Friday. That is from a good source at Rivals. A source who has been accurately predicting these things. Heh, you MU guys will believe anything.

I thought so, too. But I wonder if guys like Long were out of their league in a BCS conference. And it didn't help that our DC got sick and was out of commission this season. No doubt that Reggie Mitchell was a home run hire. One of the few things Gill did right.

Long had a lot of experience at BCS schools.

SD State a BCS school? Or did he have other jobs prior to that? I know he played QB at Iowa.

Edit: NM, I see that he was a DB and QB coach at Iowa as well as QB coach at OU and then OC. Really then you would have thought he would have done better at KU than he did. I'm thinking that TG's club med approach was the college version of Herm Edwards. Probably nobody would ever succeed in that situation.

Vic Koeninning? You say that as if it would be a bad thing. I'm not sure I'm buying that.

Quote:
In 2005 Koenning became defensive coordinator for the Clemson Tigers. Clemson ranked in the top 25 for scoring defense and total defense during his tenure. It was ninth in total defensive in 2007. Koenning resigned his position on December 2, 2008. Koenning's defense was the highlight of the Clemson 2008 season. He was hired at Kansas State by head coach Bill Snyder on December 8, 2008 to be assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator (alongside Chris Cosh) at his alma mater.[1] The K-state defense improved from 118 to 38 under Koenning.
Plus I hear his Illinios defense was stout this year (having trouble finding that stat, though). Not to mention that he had the nation's top sacker.

Sounds to me like it would be a good hire.

Also hear Al Groh is a candidate.

That may be. I was just passing along the scuttlebutt from that region. I don't know if Gus turning down KU is better or worse for KU than Zenger picking Weis when Gus was available.

Yeah, because Sunday mornings from 9-10 are important meeting times in college football. This might surprise you, but not every member of every football team goes to the same church.
