Mel Gibson is a single man once again, but his divorce will reportedly cost him upwards of $400 million -- making it the biggest divorce payout in Hollywood history!

It was decided in a Los Angeles courtroom on Friday that after 30 years of marriage, seven children and no prenuptial agreement, Gibson's ex, Robyn Moore, was entitled to half of everything the actor earned during their marriage. His fortune was once estimated by the Los Angeles Business Journal to be around $850 million.

The two met in the late 1970s and split in April 2009, citing irreconcilable differences, although they have remained on good terms, for the sake of their children. "Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so," they said in a joint statement at the time.

Surely you can't be serious. Almost 30yrs of marriage, 7 kids, no pre-nup while living in California for the majority of the marriage. Uh, yeah, Mel has to pay a lot.

Marriage is a state sanctioned legally bound contract. There are far reaching implications to dissolving any contract. Any agreement you ever enter into, whether it be a marriage contract to a construction contract would be wise to understand the terms of that agreement. In this case certain criteria was met during the marriage and she is entitled to half of all joint assets, as well as liabilities that have been built during the marriage.
