I've been wondering why we Mizzou fans don't have one of these.

Is it really that hard to figure out why more schools claim a football tradition over basketball?

As far as the short list of teams that claim multiple NCs in both sports, Michigan State is the one that sticks out that could possibly consider itself both.

Of course football is more popular, and the schools love it because filling 70,000 stadiums is somehow more profitable than filling 16,000 seat arenas... but, the NCAA tournament does use football stadiums for 3rd round games and some conference tournaments. Let's not be ridiculous.
That is all fine. But when some get ancy when we talk about how the amount of "basketball schools" can be counted on one hand maybe we can link to your post or something?

Kansas City is neither a baseball nor football town because we don't have 3 or more championships in either.

I guess baseball is more popular than football in America because more cities have 3 or more World Series championships than have 3 Superbowl wins.

North Chicago isn't a baseball town because the Cubs haven't won a WS in 100 years.

Personally, I don't think it's an either/or situation. I think there are football schools with football tradition, basketball schools with basketball tradition, and everyone else kind of falls in between those two.

Doesn't mean there isn't tradition there for those in between in either basketball/football, just means the history of the school hasn't been overwhelmingly been dictated by one sport.

I don't think anyone is arguing that BB is more popular than FB. It's very simple - some schools have a rich football tradition (they may [Florida, tOSU, UT] or may not [NU, LSU] be good at basketball). There are more schools that have football tradition as stipulated by Bearcat. Then of course we have schools that don't have any winning traditions at all. We all know who we are.

I stand corrected. Those two schools have won. I think Pitt has a title back in the day too.

Here's how you define "basketball school" or "football school":

Would the majority of your fans rather win a football NC or a basketball NC?

I've always kinda thought of KC as a CBB town.

Being it has the whole CBB Experience and all.

It would probably save some time... logic does that.

Does anyone outside of MU fans on CP define schools by sport?
