Raspberry Pi...
Heard about this? Huge potential in this tiny little device. I can see this really changing the future of media consumption and availability to the masses. It's essentially a $35 mini computer that can also serve as a home theater system.
http://www.raspberrypi.org/ What’s a Raspberry Pi? The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming. How much will it cost? The Model A will cost $25 and the Model B $35, plus local taxes. How powerful is it? The GPU provides Open GL ES 2.0, hardware-accelerated OpenVG, and 1080p30 H.264 high-profile decode. The GPU is capable of 1Gpixel/s, 1.5Gtexel/s or 24 GFLOPs of general purpose compute and features a bunch of texture filtering and DMA infrastructure. That is, graphics capabilities are roughly equivalent to Xbox 1 level of performance. Overall real world performance is something like a 300MHz Pentium 2, only with much, much swankier graphics. How do you get your most used plugins to show up on the main screen of XBMC when you scroll to the Video section. Like you have Hulu, etc.

Go to System settings, then Skin. Under Skin, there are several "tabs". One of them is Add-On Shortcuts. There it will let you place shortcuts to your plugins under each Home Screen menu, like Videos, Music, etc.

To install the zip file you downloaded.... First, don't unzip the zip file! That's important. I know it would seem logical to do so, but if you unzip it, you usually break the structure so that it can't be installed in XBMC. If you open it, trash it and redownload the zip. Once you have a zip that's intact, save it somewhere on your computer, assuming this is Win7. In XBMC, navigate to System. Then open Add-ons. From there, you should see Disabled Add-ons, Enabled Add-ons, Get Add-ons, Install from zip file, and Search. You may be missing one of those, that's OK. Click on Install from zip file. This should open a mini browser to the right. Navigate to where the zip file is saved. I'm not positive how it is in Windows, so you might have to see what locations are available in the mini file browser that opens in XBMC, and put your zip file in that location. But I'd think you'd be able to browse to any location on your HD to find the zip file. Anyway, find the zip file, and just click on it. That should install it. Now you can click on Enabled Add-ons, and find it in the list. If you click on it, it will give you options to Uninstall, Update if available, and Configure. Play around with the configurations, and tweak it for what works.

But when you say buffer all the way, what do you mean? It never should really buffer all the way. It should only buffer enough to keep the stream going. Are you pausing the files for a long time or something? Anyway, what you can do is create a file which will increase your buffer size. Here's how: Open Notepad. Copy and paste the following into Notepad: Quote:
Then save that as advancedsettings.xml Make sure Notepad doesn't try and stick a .txt to the end of it. You want it named exactly advancedsettings.xml. Then copy that file to C:\Users\(your_user_name)\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\ The AppData folder is hidden by default. So if you open up that location, and don't see AppData, go to the address bar at the top, and type \AppData to the end of the address and hit Enter. That should increase your cache so it doesn't completely fill.

So the RTMPGUI is causing xbmc to crash for me. I'm running 11.0 rc2 on a PC with Vista. It crashed the first 3 times I tried, then I went into the settings and I checked the option for "Updated libRTMP present" and tried again. Still crashed when I tried to open a channel. The only other option in the settings is to show the time in 24H format, so I'm not sure if messing with that will change anything.
The box at the top says "Whatsonindia.com" and it has a space for username and password, do I need an account there maybe? |

Go to C:\Users\(your_user_name)\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\ and find the xbmc.log file. You can either open it up and copy and paste that here, or upload it to Pastebin.com Don't worry about the WhatoninIndia.com crap.

You can mirror it from your existing setup. But when going from one platform to another, there's more steps involved because of little things like saving files in different locations and such. Honestly I'd recommend just starting from scratch on the ATV. Once you configure one XBMC setup, the next one takes about 1/4 of the time.
