Ohio State T Mike Adams Tested Positive

Ohio State T Mike Adams Tested Positive For Marijuana At The Combine

Ohio State offensive tackle Mike Adams, a projected first round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, tested positive for marijuana at this year's Scouting Combine, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports.

According to La Canfora, Adams has been upfront with NFL clubs since learning of his positive test result which could keep him from slipping in next week's draft.

At 6-foot-7 and 323 pounds with 34" arms and 10 7/8" hands, Adams is built like the protoypical left tackle and possesses the natural athletic ability to man that position at the next level, but is likely to begin his NFL career on the right side. Adams only played in 32 games for the Buckeyes, missing time with shoulder and knee injuries, as well as disciplinary issues. Adams was suspended for two games as a sophomore for violating team rules and was suspended for the first five games of his senior season for receiving improper benefits from a tattoo parlor.

Should Adams drop him to the second round, the cost of his positive test result could be over $3 million. The average guarantee of the final 10 picks of the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft was $5.942 million. The average guarantee of the first 10 picks in the second round of last year's draft was $3.036 million, a number boosted by Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick receiving the quarterback premiums in their contracts.

Accept value when it falls in your lap, and this will lead to a strong roster long-term.

Exactly.

Not every high value pick is going to be at a position of extreme immediate need. But over the long-term, you'll be amazed at what your needs end up being.

If Perry or Konz have fallen to the 2nd, sure - go with those guys. Those are also pretty good value picks that fit the needs better. But if there's nobody that presents a strong value pick and Adams is available for you, passing on him because you have Albert w/ 1 year left on his deal and Winston, who rumors suggest was let go by Houston because of health concerns - well that's just dumb.

When I was reading through the thread, my first thought was about the '05 draft and Rodgers. At the time, many might have said the same thing: "We don't need a QB now! LB is a much bigger concern!!"

Now, we have largely wised up (for the most part) about QBs, but the guiding principle in selecting Adams would be the same. Take the damn gift and run like hell.

Adams would be a very good pick in the 2nd round for us, IMO. He provides depth where we desperately need it and could be a very good developmental player for us.
We have an IMMEDIATE need at center. As in...we don't have one on the roster. We need to pick up a center or a guard and move hudson before we start filling backup roles with huge red-flag guys.

a backup/swing tackle is a definite need

Is Mims ready?

need somebody this year and we need to start developing them all the time so we don't run into problems again.

Maybe he'll pull a J. Houston, and Pioli will snag him.

Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but there's been a lot of questions on Mike Adams. He really took a big hit (hurr) on his stock.

Dude, why are you even replying as it obvious you know nothing about the Chiefs or the OL. Maneri was moved to TE what...2 months ago. Mims is spelled with like, Mims and he probably be the best lineman in camp this fall. Mims was a steal for the Chiefs.

David Mims has all the tools to be great. And appears to be a great kid from a good family. Don't be surprised to see David Mims push Albert in camp. Seriously. Go Chiefs
