Richardson, Albert, Winston in PFF OT ratings today

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...nsive-tackles/

Quote:
Today I’ll be looking at offensive tackles and tomorrow I’ll move onto guards, before finishing with centers, tight ends, and running backs in the days that follow.

How I’ll be doing that is pretty simple: three years of data from our Pass Blocking Efficiency numbers–a stat of ours that shows which players are giving up the most (and least) pressure relative to how much they’re on the field in pass-blocking situations, factoring in the nature of the pressure as well.

It works itself out by first adding sacks to three quarters the value of the total number of hits and hurries then dividing that result by the player’s pass-blocking snaps. Multiply by 100 and subtract that from 100 and you have the PBE. The closer the final result is to 100 the better.
Cliffs:

Richardson the 6th worst OT over 3 years.

Winston the 8th best. Albert 12th, with precious few left tackles ahead of him.

Why should Haley have tried to "get along" with Weis? Haley took a job where he was told he'd have control of his own staff. Then, not only does Pioli go back on that word, but he hires a guy Haley wanted NOTHING to do with.

Not only did Pioli force a OC on Haley, but then Weis washed his hands of Cassel, Haley took over, Cassel looked good, and Weis got the credit, when all he did was call plays.

If you say you'd not only LOVE taking a job on account that you'd hire your own staff, then have the exact guys you don't want pushed upon you you are a liar.
Given that it was Hunt trying to keep the old OC in place from the beginning, Haley had to have known the deal from the start. Blaming Pioli is stupid.

Hunt strongly urged Haley to work with Gailey, Haley gave it a shot and decided that not installing the new offense now b/c of the personnel would only set the team back in the long gone run.

As I said, Haley knew the drill. Pretending it's Pioli forcing things on Haley is just stupid.

Back to the topic at hand, what other spots on the oline do we need to be thinking about?

With Allen likely slated at LG, it seems like it's just backup spots that need filled?

Everyone wants to assign blame to the guy they don't like.

It's Pioli.
It's Haley.
It's Weis.
It's Hunt.

The reality is that there's some truth to all of it.

It was, simply stated, a cluster****.

Since the one area that Cassel doesn't totally suck is the intermediate pass across the middle, there's more truth to that than you think.

Carl Peterson doomed this team long before any of those names became associated with the Chiefs.

I credit Cassel for throwing so few INT's and I credit Bowe for his YAC/TD works that 2011 season. It wasn't just the crossing/middle routes though, the offense worked the flats also. Excuse the jumbled look, but take a look at some of the games where the offense won with an air attack -- many TD's from outside the zone requiring YAC for the TD;

I'd be curious to see what this information looks like with Orton vs. without Orton. The pass protection obviously improved by leaps and bounds.

Consider the defense they're playing. And consider those games and how many guys they were stacking in the box to stop Charles. Cassel isn't good in the flats. He struggles to throw outside because he has neither the arm strength or accuracy. If by "flats" you mean "quick Wide Receiver screen" even I can do that. And even in those cases, you saw too many instances of Cassel firing a bullet into McCluster's helmet.

What you're trying to say is that when Cassel's primary read gets open, he's not half bad. But if you force him to throw into tight windows and to go through his progressions, he's not. He benefits from teams stacking 8 guys in a box to stop Charles, forcing one-on-ones with Bowe with a lot of space to run through. You can't have a QB whose success is that reliant on the people around him. Given how dominant Charles was, there are a ton of quality NFL QBs who would have excelled if their only charge was to "not make mistakes." QBs who don't take chances don't make mistakes.
