1: Probably the most talked about guy in camp this year is Jon Baldwin. I was excited to see him practice in person and was immediately impressed. I hadn't realized just how big this guy is until I saw him standing with the other wideouts. He even makes some of the TE's look small. To say Baldwin has dedicated himself to becoming a top-notch WR this offseason is, to me, an understatement. The guy is pure intensity. My brother made a good observation in saying that Jon was the Tamba on the offensive side of the ball...giving 200%, 100% of the time. He literally yelled (or growled) every time he took off on his routes, and was practicing at game speed. The coaches LOVE this guy and are constantly high fiving and praising his play. To say he's going to have a monster year is probably dead on.

2: OL observations: Jeff Allen and Donald Stephenson will both start for this team eventually. Jeff Allen has solid footwork and great upper body strength. I saw him stalemate guys right and left. Stephenson, while not as ready as Allen, is going to be a good player. He's constantly taking pointers from Albert and Winston. I saw him get schooled by Tamba, who slapped his hands away and slipped around him...he then was talking with Winston about something and Winston was demonstrating technique. Stephenson then went up against Hali again and was able to apply what Winston had just taught him and win. I know some people were talking about Winston just looking like another guy out there, but to me he was all that is advertised. His kick/slide footwork in pass protection was superb and he has great feel in run blocking.

3: DL observations. Poe is going to be special. He made 2 big plays consecutively during the OL-DL run portion. The first play, Poe blew up a doubleteam and split the blockers to stop Cyrus Gray in the backfield. The other guys on the D were slapping his helmet and telling him great job. I met Poe after the practice and he was a super nice guy...calling me 'big fella' even though he's got about 150 lbs on me. Tyson Jackson looks determined to be better again this season and was working his ass off.

4: QB's. I can't believe I'm saying this, and couldn't last night either, but Cassel looks MUCH better. I don't know if it's the system, DaBoll, or what...but he seems confident and is actually accurate. In all phases of practice he threw strikes. One TD throw to Breaston was probably better than any throw I've ever seen Cassel make. It was an out route and the DB had Breaston pretty much blanketed. Cassel threw the ball to Breaston's outside shoulder, just over the pylon, the only place that the DB couldn't get to it. Steve made a great catch and got two feet in for the TD. DaBoll went just as nuts as the other offensive players did. Cassel might be in for a big year if this translates to the game field. Stanzi and Quinn both had their moments in practice, but overall I think both of them were slightly off last night. Quinn is pretty inaccurate and you hold your breath every time he throws a deep one. Stanzi has probably the best footwork and mechanics of the entire group and throws a pretty ball. He had a few off target and some that were just dropped by receivers.

5: Other observations. Berry looks like Berry. Defense is going to be legit. Tamba, DJ and Houston all look like beasts. Syler will probably see substantial playing time. Colquitt punted a ball 80 yards in the air. Colquitt also punted a ball that bounced into the stands and I caught it. None of the players cared that I wanted to keep it, but the douchebag ball boy asked me to throw it back. I did, and was booed by the crowd. Should have kept it. Ripoti Patuitary Gland or whatever his name is, #77, is a BEAST of a man. He is very quick for his size as well. I could see him being a big contributor if Romeo and Pleasant can get him coached up.

Overall I had a great time at practice, and it was great to see these guys back in action. I was excited for the season before yesterday, but now I can't wait to see this team on the game field. Easily the most talent I've ever seen on a Chiefs practice field.
Solid post.

Mind if I ask for a little background about how you grew up in the game?

Losses he can be blamed for:

Miami and Denver in 2011 (either would have given us a playoff berth)
SEVERAL from 2009

Oh, and there's that little tiny screwup he had. It's called the 2010 playoffs.

Can't we just call him shit without worrying about what degree of shit?

The fans have been damned to hell with him. What circle of hell is irrelevant.

Pete is just a dipshit flinging shit.

Cassel isn't the reason for every individual loss.

We all know that.

But when you are a guy that has only one win gainst a playoff team, and, what is it?, two wins against teams that have finished a season above .500 in 4 seasons as a starter, including New England, that tells you that he will be the primary reason that we can't win when it matters most.

Cassel is responsible for the Miami loss last year? I seem to remember the D getting abused by Fassano and Bush just as bad as anything else on the field.

He should be blamed for San Diego, too.

And in 2010:

Denver (a massive inability to respond to Kyle Pro Bowl Orton in the first half).
Indianapolis (played like dogshit, Bowe drop or not)
Houston (a massive inability to respond to Matt Schaub late in the game)

Interestingly enough, our 6th loss in 2010 was Brodie Croyle's fault, which should have clued Scott Pioli into the fact that we needed a better backup for Cassel. And yet here we sit with nothing two years in a row.

Denver I will give you though he went out hurt. Miami's defense kicked the teeth of our O-line in all day and their offense smoked our defense all game. I have stated several times I am not saying Cassel is a good QB. It's just some of the things that get said really make one wonder.

Do I want him as our QB, not unless he is a backup.
Is he the best QB we have? Yes, and nothing we can do about it.
Has he lost us some games? Yes
Has he won us some games? Yes
Has he been blamed for losses that others were more responsible for? Yes
Has he been credited for win that others were mroe responsible for? Yes

That about cover it?

Cassel was responsible for our offense doing nothing to respond to Miami in that game.

You cannot completely blame the D when the quarterback doesn't even bother to respond to a drive from the other team.

That was a 14-3 game at the half. Go and look at the first half play by play and defend Cassel. You can't. He also blew his first drive of the 2nd half, and a chance to make the game closer.

You can only blow so many chances to go get a score before the opposing quarterback puts the game away.

So the o-line had nothing to do with the ineffectivness of our offense? This is exactly what I am talking about with you. Miami's defense kicked our shit in that game.

Cassel makes offensive lines less effective.

The Giants had the worst pass protection in the league last year. Eli threw for 5,000 yards.

Blaming the offensive line for Cassel being a POS is the exact kind of thing that true fans do.

How much of this "Cassel is looking awesome" bullshit is because it's practice? Cassel knows he's not going to get hit. Put him in a live game where he gets drilled that first time....and he'll revert back to shitting his pants every time he drops back.

The NY Giants had the 7th ranked O-line in the league during the regular season last year. They had the #5 passing offense in the league.
