Apparently, the way Brown played Baldwin yesterday was the best any DB has played him all training camp.

I am happy to say I was wrong. I thought Menzie showed pretty well, not great, but pretty well for a rookie, against the Cards. |

When did Arizona QB's have time to throw when Fitz was in? Not often, and if they did, it was hurried or forced.

As was mentioned earlier, he was on Fitz for the first quarter against the Cards. |

He's definately having a good camp in the reports I have read. Also, the KC Star did an article about him last week and there are a couple of others out there. I would link them but I can't. Just google Jalil Brown.

I don't disagree but consider this. Routt played LCB last year against the #1 WRs. When Flowers was out, they didn't move Routt to LCB. They kept him at RCB and put Brown on him. This is a good thing. Hopefully, Brown will be the next Carr.

Not refuting, just wondering who you get your reports from. Doesn't sound like anything I've been reading.

I would probably argue that it is training camp and preseason and it doesn't matter. Moving Routte to the left side he's familiar with and robbing him of time on the right where he is a new guy expected to play well within a system would be counterproductive.

True but, Flowers has left or missed games every year due to injury. Part of the reason they signed Routt was because he was familiar with both spots.

they probably didnt move Routt to LCB in practice because you know, they expect Flowers to be the LCB starter Week 1. So Routt can take all his reps as the #2 CB, as he should.

Nope. Read him, he doesn't know football well enough for me to care. He's good for a blurb here or there, and to tell me what happened, but not enough for me to trust his evaluation of players. There are very few quality evaluators out there. Some better than others. These guys who just report what's happening and who they believe looks good are trash. Not willing to put themselves out there for ridicule by actually assessing players and their technique or their play in different assignments of different defensive looks. Mostly, b/c they don't know anything about the defense, the players responsibility, or desired technique.
Good follows are @TheFilmRoom or @Jacobs71. Cordell(@TheFilmRoom or formerdb on message boards) really has a wealth of knowledge to share. Very good follow, problem being he hasn't made training camp much save about a week. Nick Jacobs(@Jacobs71 with Metro Sports) isn't as knowledgeable as Cordell, but still light years better than most. He may not be as knowledgeable as Cordell, but is better than most and willing to put himself out there. Even though he likes Stanzi, he's a lot less biased than most, pointing out his terrible mistakes as well as good plays. One night when Cordell was unable to attend, he asked Jason Madison what coverage the QB's were throwing against in 7 on 7 in the redzone, which was a TDfest, Madison made excuse after excuse why he couldn't answer the question. I left the area, ten minutes later, still reporting on 7 on 7 happenings, Cordell asks again, "I can't get a good look from where I'm at". All this while the defense typically works on the same coverage through all three teams so they can all get reps and the coaches can evaluate a player's play in said coverage. The guy had tons of opportunities to figure out the coverage, but didn't know how and was afraid to put himself out there for ridicule. @Jacobs71 later answered Cordell question for him. Those two guys are about the only guys I trust for player evaluation. The majority of the rest don't know what they're looking at and are only good for updates on what's happening. Jason La Canfora is supposed to be at camp today I believe. Don't know if he's any good at player evaluation, or just a reporter like most of the rest. Still be cool to hear his takes though. |
