Kansas Citian behind ‘Glass must go’ ad in Star

Awesome! This guy speaks for alot of us!

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/22...lass-must.html

Last month, Joseph Accurso and buddies from his college days were playing poker, talking about another lost Royals season and wondering whether there was a way to express their anger over the lack of progress under owner David Glass.
Yes, they decided. Take it to the people.

Accurso bought a half-page ad in today’s editions of The Star to present a letter to Glass, imploring him to sell the team.

“I’m a lifelong Kansas City guy, who like a lot of people loves the Royals,” said Accurso, 37, a commercial real-estate broker. “My buddies and I were tired of complaining about it and decided to do something.”

Accurso created a website, no-more-glass.com to solicit donations for the newspaper space, and more than 150 people contributed $5,100, sending anywhere from $5 to $250.
The seven-paragraph letter opens by thanking Glass for buying the team in 2000.
It ends with a plea.

“By any measure when accounting for wins and losses, the records will show the fans have rolled up their sleeves, in the only way Kansas Citians know how, and met our commitments to the franchise we love. There is no measure that can support the same sentiment for your records. It’s time to win again, Mr. Glass. I implore you, Mr. Glass, to sell the team immediately, enjoy the rest of your days with your family without the burden of team ownership, and accept our thanks for keeping the team in Kansas City.”

The Royals say their mission has never changed.
“We love our fans, and they’ve backed us in difficult times,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals senior vice president for business operations. “If anybody out there believes we have motives other than to bring a championship here, they’re mistaken.

“Nobody wants it more than our chairman (Glass) and (general manager) Dayton Moore. There is no lack of commitment. It’s sad there are those who want to spin it differently.”
Accurso, who said he attends a couple of games a year and watches them all on television, said he’s not sure what to expect from the grass-roots campaign.

“I’m not naďve enough to think I can write a letter, Glass will read it and say, ‘I should sell the team,’ ” Accurso said. “But I felt like, ‘Can I take some initiative and at least get a conversation started?’ ”

The recent run of Royals success — a 13-8 August record — didn’t deter Accurso.
“The Royals tend to play better at the end of the year and give everybody hope for the next season,” said Accurso, who was 10 when the 1985 World Series title was the Royals’ last postseason appearance. “I guess after 27 years, I’ve earned the right to be a little cynical.”

I like your enthusiasm. I want the Royals to do well. I used to love them so very much. I still enjoy going to the games even though I can't get anyone in my family to go. They HATE it. I'd love for them to be successful again.

I just don't want it to be at the expense of something I love more and always have since about age 13.

Well fwiw I don't "want" it to be at the expense of SKC either... I just want a good, passionate, dedicated ownership for MY team too.

I think our city and pro teams deserve no less.

All this agreeing with you is going to damage my reputation even further around here.

I know it is hard, but this is the problem. Last time I checked, the Royals were outdrawing the division leading White Sox.

WTF? Glass is a WalMart guy, why would he spend more money?

It's a business, and being a WalMart guy, I doubt he lets his heart get in his business.

What a bunch of bullshit.
Exactly.

Intentional or not, the last sentence comes off a little snarky to me.

Of course, other than giving away free t-shirts, the Royals have discovered new and interesting ways to fail PR.

This isn't football where the specter of the team going to LA is around. The main cities who might be looking for a baseball franchise (Portland, Buffalo, OKC) would not be any better options. The only possibility might be in Vegas which the league would never approve.

If SKC owners are the bestest on earth, then what’s with the worry that they will suddenly leave SKC in the dust if they buy the Royals?

And I have yet to see any proof or even backing up the statement that Royals fans have been “nasty” to SKC. The only thing I heard after that was “people on the radio didn’t want to talk about soccer.”

And what in the f**k does this topic have to do with soccer anyway?

The Glass family doesn't measure "winning" in terms of baseball wins and losses.
The measure winning in terms of "dollars." Like buying a team for less than $100 million, and then if they DO sell it, sell for $400 million.

That's a world series win in Wally World.

The fans of SKC are Duhinse and Zach. That should tell you the demographics of MLS right there. If the Cerner boys want to buy the Royals more power to them, but MLB is little different than a Triple A soccer team.
