Romeo says Quinn might get some game snaps

Brady Quinn poised for more Kansas City Chiefs snaps

Teammates of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel reportedly are losing confidence in him following another rocky outing in Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers. The coaching staff might not be far behind.

Coach Romeo Crennel admitted Monday that Brady Quinn could pick up some first-team snaps in practice this week. Crennel broached the idea of benching Cassel at some point, even if only for a drive.

"You pull him out, put somebody else in, let him settle down and maybe he goes back in," Crennel said. "As a coach, you get a feeling about whether he's making good decisions, poor decisions ... those kind of things all kind of play into it."

Cassel has 10 turnovers on the season, so he has made a lot of poor decisions. Cassel is not the type of playmaker, like Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who can make up for many mistakes.

"At some point, as a coach, you go through and you see what's happening in the game and how a guy is reacting and how he's responding to what's happening in the game," Crennel said. "If you feel he's inept, constantly making poor decisions, bad choices, then that's when you move on from him and give someone else a chance."

The Chiefs' home crowd chanted for No. 3 quarterback Ricky Stanzi on Sunday. Crennel can only hope that's the low point of the season. We aren't likely to see Stanzi anytime soon, but it sounds like we're another bad Cassel performance away to getting the Brady Quinn experience.

Normally, I'd agree. However, this division is won on 10-6/9-7. Additionally, the Broncos are relying on Peyton completing a full season back without any setbacks and the Chargers are the Chargers. While it is doubtful, if Stanzi goes 8-4 like you said, we'd probably be in the thick of things, no?

I wish the best for Ricky. I just hope that if he puts us out of the Geno Smith race somehow, he proves that it is worth it.

Granted, it will likely not come to that, but if it does...

Don't blame you for feeling that way. But if you were to analyze it a little more closely, you'd see that he was wearing an opponents jersey before he ever had a chance to complete his drop 80% of the time.

Not good enough. Still going to be a disappointment if he doesn't lead the Dolphins' franchise to a playoff victory. (Disclaimer: I'm not a Dolphins fan. NTTIAWWT. But I am a fan of the Chiefs and all the other teams in the NFC East)

I didn't say I think he would go 8-4...I was simply talking about the ramifications of the situation if he did.

I do still think he would play well with this roster, though.

He is a better natural leader that either Cassel or Quinn though.

I didn't want to seem like a weasel. I didn't think Tannehill was worth trading up for (I wanted Mercilus) and I think Weeden will provide a maximum of 3 years at an above-average level of performance and will probably flame out within 2.

Granted, both have played better than I expected, especially Tannehill. If they continue to perform well, then I will eat crow gladly. That being said, I didn't think those two were close in terms of talent to Luck, RG3 or Smith and still don't. If they prove me wrong, then congratulations to them.

Why is it that you, me and tk13 are the only ones that see it for what it is?

Whoops. Must have misread. Anyways, I agree.

Stanzi has better footwork, release, and throwing motion than any other QB on the roster.

I personally would love to see him get 1st team reps. I've been hoping for that since week 1.

Tannehill just got done throwing for 450 legit yards (lost in overtime, no garbage time yards) for a team with no receivers.

Chiefs fans have had 30 years experience bitching about QB play. Anytime they see a screwup, it's easy to lay it at the feet of the guy holding the ball.

Kid got a raw deal in ps.
Offseason 2013:

Cut Cassel, let Quinn walk, draft Geno, sign a veteran.

Geno, Stanzi, and veteran is a VERY good QB crew.
