R2D2 Progress Update - 10/24/2012
I am VERY happy with how things have turned out, and R2 is starting to look more like....well, R2 all the time! The outer skins are bonded with a combination of VHB tape and silicon. Don't ask why, it's proprietary!!

Here are a few pictures of R2's current state! As with the dome, all doors are secured with silicon so that they can easily be removed in the future when I decide to hinge them!

The why really encompasses 3 reasons.

1. I have always enjoyed building things, and one day I saw one, and thought "man, not a lot of people have one of these, so I bet it would be awesome to build!" So....I started to build one. It's 100% to scale and it's directly off of the ILM plans.

2. When it's done, it will visit Children's Mercy hospital fairly regularly to allow the kids to see him, talk to him (I have integrated bluetooth so I can plan any R2 sound I want), and just try to make their days better.

3.Cause any way you look at it, it's just cool.
