Someone (who shares my name) gave it out as their own address. My e-mail address is firstnamelastname@gmail.com - his (i'm assuming) is firstname.lastname@gmail.com

Actually, that shouldn't be the case - Gmail ignores dots in account names, so you could use either of those interchangeably.

Related protip - you can add a plus to the end of your account address and it'll ignore anything after that (before the @). For example, you can do things like firstnamelastname+spam@gmail.com as your registration for suspect sites and filter those into a special folder to keep them separate.
