Books that ****ed you up
there is really only one book that left me disturbed for quite some time after reading it, and it is Aztec by Gary Jennings.
Has anyone here read it as well? Did you feel the same way, and are there other books that leave you with a similar feeling? Quote:

American Psycho was pretty gross. Parts of it made me slightly ill.

The Kite Runner. Not the sort of book I would have bought myself, but someone gave it to me as a gift. It was a good book, but it was very, very, very sad and disturbing. Don't like thinking about it. Wish I hadn't read it. Ewww.

Gerald's Game - Stephen King.
Read tons of SK's books, perhaps most of them. And while many of his books are 'scary' there was enough of the supernatural for me to say 'scary story, but could never happen IRL.' But Gerald's Game is the story of
Spoiler!
And it was sufficiently realistic and plausible [evidenced by the subsequent real life incident mentioned in the spoiler] to totally wig me out.

The Road, I guess. I wouldn't say it ****ed me up, but it did have an effect on me. I would be outside in the cold and rain and think, "What if this really was every day life?" Kind of made me appreciate the things I have. It stuck with me for quite some time.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.“

I've been wanting to read that for some time now. I have read some of Bret Easton Ellis's other work but didn't really like it. Rules of attraction was pretty gay and the other book was just boring. couldn't finish either.
