The 7 Deadly sins of Andy Reid (from eagles message board)

I was trolling around in some eagles message boards last night and I found this from November of 2006. They had been calling for Reids head for a long time. Although I LOVE this hire, here are some "flaws" that eagles fans saw years ago from Reid

The 7 Deadly sins of Andy Reid

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Greed/Avarice:
Andy Reid only wants the big play, he has no patience to grind out drives. Running plays are part of a balanced offense.

-Laziness/Sloth:
He is unable to get the team to play with passion. They fail to do the fundamentals, the most basic yet critical points of playing football. The short practices he holds means he's not drilling them on doing the simple things. He relies too much on the team being self-motivated to be ready for games, but they don't, and his failure to prepare them is the issue.

-Pride/Hubris:
He is too stubborn to make changes. Admitting responsibility or pointing out mistakes or deficiencies means little when no changes are actually implemented.

-Lust:
Reid desperately wanted a high flying offense. He convinced his QB to stay in the pocket rather than scramble. He neither invested in a running game nor executed any semblence of a running game.

-Envy:
Reid was envious of warm weather teama and teams in domes that take advantage of the controlled weather. The Eagles have turned into a caricature of such a team: one that emphasizes the pass too much. Consider their early season record the past two years is 8-4 (4-2 each season) but horrible once the weather turns cold. It used to be Reid's record in November and December was good but that was when the team had a running game and a quality defense.

-Wrath:
Reid has lashed out against his critics and the journalists who challenge him, but not enough on his players.

-Gluttony:
Others would focus on the obvious. Coaching-wise, he's riding by on too much credit for beating too many bad teams in past seasons. This team used to be able to beat teams with poor QBs, now they can only beat over the hill QBs but not the young&inexperienced ones. When your defense can't stop the run, it doesn't matter what kind of confusing blitz packages you can throw at the QB.

This team has now lost many winnable home games in more and more embarrassing ways. It would be inconceivable that the team wins against the Colts, I'm thinking a redux of the Seattle MNF game from last year. Get the young players some experience, see what Justice and Jean-Gilles can do. See if Moats has any trade value.

Listen to the interview Mitch had with the Philadelphia reporter on that Chiefs Live deal.

I don't think much has changed in respect to Wally's practice regimen.

There's really no perfect head coach out there.

As long as Reid gets the QB position right, he'll be a great head coach. If not, he's fired in four years...

I think we are going to see a dramatic drop in production from Jamaal. Im ok with it, as long as we are winning games.

Or we could see a dramatic increase in production from Jamaal Charles catching the ball out of the backfield and making huge plays. Im ok with it, as long as we are winning games.

some may be valid criticisms, but its a bit out of date. At the time he was coming off a 6-10 season.

I'm not so sure.

When you look at Jamaal's production, a lot of it came without the help of any passing threat whatsoever. They were off-end or off-tackle runs for the most part and he was able to out-run the pursuit once he hit the second level.

In other words, he doesn't need a ton of touches. He needs a way to get the ball in space ... preferably, with a head of steam.

I predict that Jamaal's numbers would actually improve if you were to create an offense that forced the enemy to respect the pass. For example, get the enemy linebackers to move right (along with the safeties) then get Ja-ball to the left edge and watch the fireworks.

And, of course, there's also the idea that you can actually throw the rock to Jamaal after spreading the defense and you've effectively doubled his value to the offense.

Let me correct myself, his numbers as far as running the ball will go down. I would love to see him as a threat in the passing game. Imagine Geno and Jamaal in that backfield...What a nightmare for defenses

I'm not sure I typed out a perfectly clear post there, Mr. @KCsporting. My apologies for being a numbskull. What I meant to say is that it's very possible Jamaal's efficiency would improve ... rushing efficiency, I mean.

His forte isn't the "grind-it-out" rush game. It's the big run for long yardage. We've achieved that (most often) by sealing the edges and getting his ass into the second level between the numbers and the boundary. You can create space in that area by designing your pass routes accordingly and having success throwing the ball.

I honestly believe that, with a passing threat, you can scheme better runs with a guy like Jamaal and his YPC average would actually improve.

Charles will have 2000+ scrimmage yards and a career high in TD's. People who think he's suddenly going to be terrible if he 'only' gets 240 carries need to remember he's a guy who busted out 1400 yards on that many carries. Jamaal doesn't need 350 carries. The guys who probably see fewer carries are the Hillis's and the McCluster's of the group.

Oh no.

Unless Charles gets injured, he'll have a career year. Andy loves fast playmakers, and that's exactly what JC is.

With a bona fide high flying pass game, Jamaal might be the first back to ever average 7ypc for a season.
