Alex Smith to ask for release

If no draft picks are involved, does that change your opinion on bringing him in? Draft pick, Smith, Stanzi(?) as your QB's in camp. |

He plays for the 49ers. He does not play for the Chiefs. Calm down young man. There are three guys coming out next year that I would take over anyone in this draft or in this free agency class. Gabbert is only 23, he can have one more year to prove he isn't a bust. If he's terrible, it's a one way ticket to Teddy/Tajh/Murray town. |

The fact you'd rather have Boyd or Murray over Geno or Wilson says quite a bit, IMO. |

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/te...s/seasontype/2 I would need a crystal ball telling me Geno/Wilson are future hall of famers for me to want the Jags to take one of them #2 overall. |

But really, it's this for me: If you had a first round QB that's been in the league for only two years, and you had an OBVIOUS need at pass rusher, would you think "let's ditch our young QB! Two years is enough!" Or would you take the best pass rusher in the draft, give your young guy at least his third year to develop, and address the QB situation again next year, if needed? Because if Gabbert doesn't improve, the Jags are drafting in the top two picks again next year. |

That's a completely different argument. |

There's a good chance they could get a top-flight pass rusher this year and Teddy Bridgewater next year. I'd probably take that chance if I were in the Jags' shoes. |

Just interesting. Harbaugh didn't let him get away, despite having a young QB that he apparently knew could get the job done, and yet Alex Smith went back there knowing full well that he might not be the starter for long. And yet, we apply the same priciples here and it doesn't work?

RING RING. GM X FROM TEAM Y ANSWERS: Hello? ALEX SMITH'S AGENT: Hi, is this GM x? GM X: Yes. AGENT: This is AGENT 0, I represent Alex Smith. GM X: Speak of the devil! We are about to trade for ol' Alex. AGENT: Yeah, he's not gonna play for you. GM X: Uh... he's under contract for two years. He has to. AGENT: He will never sign an extention with you. He will have a "nagging shoulder injury" that sidelines him all season. He won't do any voluntary workouts. And after one miserable season, he will sit out until you release him. GM X: Okay, thanks, bye. RING RING 49'ers GM: Hello, this is the GM. GM X: Yo, it's me. 49'ers GM: Buddy! GM X: Trade is off. I'll give you a 7th rounder for him, and that's it. 49'ers GM: Shit. |

Clemson, Georgia, and Louisville will all be competing with Alabama for the #1 spot next year. It will be fun to watch. Quote:
And like I said previously, I guarantee I have been a Geno fan longer than anyone here outside of anyone here who is from WV or went to WVU. But I am a Jaguars fan first, and do not think it would be in the teams best interest. And I don't actually think there is any chance they could possibly draft him with the Chiefs going #1, so I don't waste time equating it into my decisions. |

I could be wrong, but I just think that NFL guys are too prudent/cautious/chicken shit to do it. |

The funny thing is, if Andy Reid and John Dorsey, two men with an eye for quarterback talent want Alex Smith to be the Chiefs next QB, they will have it. If they don't, they won't grab him and they will, in all likelihood, take a QB in the first round. What we think has nothing to do with it.

I don't want to live in a world where Alex Smith gets a 500 post thread of the same thing being said over and over.

It will be interesting how NFL teams look at Murray's physical limitations. It will also be interesting to see if Boyd can improve his passing mechanics. Quote:

I think the talk of 4 guys going in the top 10 is pretty unrealistic. I could see 3 guys going top 15, though. |

And if anyone is curious as to why a Jaguars fan would be a fan of Geno for years, google "Where is Geno Smith from?"
