Would you trade the no. 1 pick for Cam Newton?

We ran into this topic late Saturday night in another thread.

I personally don't like Cam at all. He's got a ton of talent, but is an absolute idiot. He can't even learn a full playbook. Newton has put up some big numbers, but they haven't translated into a lot of wins.

He is 13-19 as a starter over 2 years.

58.9% comp | 7,920 yards pass | 40 passing TDs | 29 INTS | 1,447 rush yards | 22 rushing TDs |

Would you give up our no. 1 pick for Cam Newton?

Ok, that's fair.

I've lost my mind, Coffey. I'm ****ING TIRED of being ridiculed for having this opinion, especially when this opinion is VASTLY superior to the IDIOTS that think it's a good idea to sign Alex Smith and draft Luke Joeckel.
I have zero problems with you sticking to your guns, brother. I'll have zero problems if we draft Geno. Of the tape I've watched I have the opinion that Tyler makes the better pro. Draft one, get a FA and go for a prospect too, don't put all our eggs in one basket. And IF casshole ends up starting for another team, all the shit talking we've all done, is going to make me laugh. All my points.

Just don't take your angst out on me. We'll all see soon enough how good geno is, and if you're right - he has all the tools, and I'm wrong - he becomes a better pro than Tyler, then I sure as hell hope he's wearing red and gold and winning playoff games.

I'm not "all Geno, all day".

I love Tyler Wilson as a prospect as well.

I'm just tired of the discussion that this team should do anything other than draft a QB. Wilson is fine. Geno is fine. Barkley is even fine. We just need to roll the dice and run with it.

As for the angst, I readily admit it's my fault. This offseason has been extremely stressful so far. The thought that I've been a fan for 30 years, been through everything this team has been through, and we could possibly entertain using our 1 and only EVER 1st overall pick on a non-QB just makes me sick thinking about it.

I realize the easy solution is to gravitate towards one extreme or another, but it's also not a productive way to build a team.
They didn't suck because of character problems. They sucked because they sucked. It's not like they were putting up amazing stats and somehow finding ways to lose because they couldn't lead. They lost because they were shitty players.

Cam Newton is not a shitty player. I don't give a shit if he supposedly got paid in college. That has no bearing on anything and isn't even a character issue.

If you want the right 53, I have just the guy for you. He only drafts team captains.

We can build the "all-character team" with Tebow under Center.

Wants a LEADER at QB, and not someone who whines when losing...

Advocates drafting Geno Smith with the first pick despite the fact that his biggest knock is his demeanor when things aren't going well.

Jeff George had an entirely decent rookie season, statistically.

He had two very good statistical years with Atlanta, one with Oakland and one with Minnesota.

He was very capable of being a good QB...if he hadn't been douche factor 9.

And sadly I'm starting to think the same is true for Jay Cutler.

He continues to put up decent to good numbers every year but loses. He has a winning record in Chicago, easily, but can't seem to get over that hump from "above average" to "elite."

Jeff George threw for 5062 yards, 26 TDs, and 25 INTs his first two seasons and rushed for 38 yards and a TD. That comes to 5100 yards, 27 TDs, and 25 INTs.

Cam Newton had 4757 yards, 35 TDs, and 17 INTs in his rookie year alone.

He stole a laptop when he was 18, though. If he'd just raped a few chicks recently, I'd be cool with him. I simply can't stomach someone who stole a laptop when he was 18, though.

One time he did a Superman after he scored a TD down 20. Does that count as rape?

Today, Cam Newton has had a better statistical career than all but two Chiefs QBs ever (only counting their time as a Chief).

Again, it's not that I necessarily disagree with you.

But stats don't equal wins, and ultimately winning the Super Bowl is the goal.

It remains to be seen if Cam can even lead a .500 team, let alone hoist a Lombardi.
